What were the reasons that hard times came on Judah?  What were the consequences of worshiping other gods? What lesson can be learned from this passage about putting our focus completely on God?

God had sent prophets to warn the people not to worship other gods but they didn’t pay attention. The result was desolation as God’s anger was poured out against the towns of Judah.

The people put all their energy into worship of idols instead of God. There are things that can distract us and this video inspires us to focus on loving the lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Lincoln Brewster – Love The Lord. Listening to inspiring words from praise songs pushes the love of the Lord deep down in the heart, soul, and mind;
moving one to action. My hope and prayer is that you will be moved by this video and that it inspires you as you spend this day with God.

The lesson from this passage is to not neglect the offered salvation God gives us in Christ. We should love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; being moved to share this Good News with others.  My prayer is that God continues to validate within you the beliefs that bring you to even greater focus on Him.

Account for the accusations against Jeremiah in view of his recently fulfilled prophecies. What is the extent of the disbelief? Imagine the response of the men of Judah now that they have chosen the course of action. What do you do when you realize you have made a disastrous decision?

History is always a good predictor of the future and if someone has been right in the past, you probably should listen closer. Jeremiah had been correct in the past yet the army officers and people of Israel preferred their own wisdom to the revealed will of God.

My Pastor Steve Ramsdell made this point in a sermon: life is about choices and it’s up to us to take in what is good for our body and soul. Choose to be transformed, forgive instead of hold a grudge, hunger for God, seek freedom, and live a fulfilling life through Jesus.

Today, I’m taking a minute to think about decisions that need to be made. I’m going to God in prayer for direction in the choices to make and to accurately follow His instruction.

Jeremiah 42

What will the people have to face if they stay and try to live in Israel?  What will they face if they go to Egypt? What is the consequence of disobeying the voice of the Lord?

In this reading, the people came to Jeremiah for guidance. Should they flee to Egypt
or should they stay? Jeremiah prayed for them and received instructions from God that they should stay.

We should look to God for directions in the way we should go. The hard part is having the resolve to act in accordance with His instructions and that takes discipline.

I’m praying for discipline today. What are the things I need to do at work or around the house? I know one place I need to be for sure and that’s staying in the light; looking to God for directions and the discipline to execute the game plan He has for me today.

My hope is that this video gives inspiration to spend this day with God and stay in the light: Stay – Jeremy Camp.

Jeremiah 41

The study translation Bible 2009

Read about the plot that was executed in Mizpah. How do you feel when your circumstances are controlled by other people? Why?

A plot was executed and Gedaliah who had been appointed governor was assassinated. To cover this up, Ishmael killed over 70 men who came to offer grain offerings and incense to the house of the Lord. Today’s reading underscores the reality that peace is impossible when your circumstances are controlled by other people.

The only peace found in this world is to live each day following the Lord. Here is a link to a video that calls to attention this thought: Lifesong – Casting Crowns.  My hope is that it inspires you as you spend this day with God.

The lesson for me today is that we should organize each day to learn and build momentum. Like building muscle for the physical body, we should have a workout regimen that builds up the soul with Bible reading, study, and application. Today, I’m praying for the desire to walk in God’s ways and the initiative to do what’s necessary to receive the happiness and steadiness that a life with God always offers.
