Jeremiah 40

Passage Lookup

To what extent do the Chaldeans understand the cause of Jerusalem’s fall? How do they regard Jeremiah (See verse 2-5 with 39:12)? Contrast their regard for a prophet of God with Israel’s regard for God’s words.

A little hope seemed to be taking hold as Jeremiah was set free. He went to Mizpah which was a fertile countryside and a remnant of Judah started to grow crops and settle in.

But again bad days start to occur because of pride and revenge in the heart. The focus was not on God. Instead, the focus was on power and control rather than the love of God. A few bad individuals started a rebellion to take control.

Take a look at this video: Beauty of Mathematics. Working hard, knowledge, and attitude may get a society close to where they want to be but there is one thing that puts them over the top and that is the love of God.

A lesson for me in today’s passage is that I should pray each day for a new heart and mind that constantly believes that the love of God is what really matters; not individual pride or ambition. God loves you and my hope is that you will also pray for a heart and mind that loves God in return.

Jeremiah 39

Passage Lookup

Everything happens as Jeremiah had said. How is He rewarded? To
what extent do you trust God’s words before you have seen the results or
outcome?

When one is there to help someone or lay down a path for others, the world is enriched because a way is provided that secures a better future for all.

In this passage, Jeremiah did what God told him to do and was eventually rewarded. Ebed-Melech helped Jeremiah in a time of need. All servants of God eventually are comforted and rewarded but those that do not trust in the Lord eventually suffer.

Pray that God continues to validate within you the beliefs that bring you to a deeper understanding of how to secure a rewarding future for yourself and those you help lead down the path of life.

What have been the effects of Jeremiah’s continuing message (See 21:8-10)? When have you found God’s words to have a demoralizing effect on you? Why? Who are the two men in this passage that are rewarded for their actions (See 39:15-18)

Under difficulty, some follow God and some follow the path of least resistance. Two men in this reading choose to follow God. Both Jeremiah and Ebed-Melech follow God and both are rewarded.

Things can be tough as pointed out in this song: One Day At a Time – Jeremy Camp but we can press on because of the gift God has given in Christ. I’m praying that this video inspires you and you will feel God’s presence as you spend this day with Him.

The Godly obey from love; the evil, from fear. Passionately believe in what you are doing, let nothing hold you up in your work and make it happen one day at a time. Self Discipline is needed to continue going the way of God. Today, part of my prayer is for self discipline and for God’s help to lead me and those I love. I’m praying that you make it a part of your prayer also.
