The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. – James 3:17
Growing up, we lived about 120 miles from my grandparents but would visit quite often. Especially during a holiday or summer. My grandparents had a farm north of town, and I would go to the farm with my dad and granddad.
I remember one time walking along a path up to the tank. The weeds were high on each side of the path, so dad put me up on his shoulder. Walking along, my grandfather yelled out, “snake” and all were warned so no one was bitten. It was a big water moccasin snake near the pathway. If I were not on my dad’s shoulders, I probably would have been running ahead along the path, and the snake would have bitten me.
Life is full of snakes that want to bite us. Venomous snakes that jump out of the weeds. Con men, scammers, and bad leaders that bite. Delivering their poison to society. The Good News is that God our Father puts us up on His shoulders, so we are protected. We study His Word and He guides along the path. Our time together gives us experience and knowledge, so we are warned about the snakes slithering near the path.
The song Good, Good Father by Chris Tomlin reminds us of a truth we never outgrow: our Heavenly Father is perfect in all His ways. Every line of His Word echoes the steady, unchanging goodness of the God who loves us more deeply than we can comprehend. We are loved by Him—not because we earn it, but because it is His nature to love, to care, and to draw us close. And woven through the song is the comforting assurance that He knows exactly what we need. Before we ask, before we worry, before we even understand our own hearts, He sees us, understands us, and provides us with wisdom that is flawless and a love that never fails.
