 Picture:

Application:  What lesson has been learned or what are some plans of action I can take?

A plague of locusts and severe drought had destroyed the land but amazingly God can offer encouragement because He can mysteriously start a rebuilding process. Think of any needed restoration you see around you today. It may be a broken relationship, a person struggling or it may be something in your own life.  Pray for God to start the process and that his touch will return that something back to where God intends it to be.

The priests were to alarm the people with the near approach of the Divine judgments. In the midst of this chaos what does God urge? Why can the people have confidence in this solution?

Pray for your family, small group, place of work, or church. Pray that more people see that our business on Earth is to secure an interest in our Lord Jesus Christ and weaned from the negatives that keep us from being all that we can be. Question(s):

What has happened in the land? List the responses urged by God. How do you respond when circumstances prevent your participation in corporate worship? Why?

 Food For Thought:

Problems in life can be overcome with faith, patience, and character. Positives can be produced from troubles by praying for wisdom, rejoicing in Christ, accepting the plan, and yielding to God’s will. – Paraphrase from Pastor Steve Ramsdell sermon

 Application:

Plague and famine is written about in this passage. One lesson learned is to go to God for help when faced with difficulty. Another is to learn from the past. Think of lessons you have learned from both good and bad experiences from your past. Be thankful for Christ; the greatest teacher of lessons that provide hope for a brighter future.

Jonah 4

Passage Lookup

Question(s):

What is Jonah’s concern as he sits outside the city (contrast God’s chief concern)? How does God use the plant to illustrate the rightness of his actions toward Nineveh?

Video:

Jonah’s attitude was somewhat like the player that didn’t want to listen to the coach in this scene from “Remember the Titans”. In life, we need the discipline to focus and work together to tackle things before they become a problem.

 Application:

Jonah should have paid more attention to what was really important rather than his own pride. Pray for your own understanding in what is truly important for God’s team and in fulfilling the call He has for you. God knows what you do and who you really are. That’s all that matters.

Jonah 3

Passage Lookup

Question(s):

Both God and Jonah had a responsibility in the mission to Nineveh. How might God use you to such an extent in your campus, office, or community?

Video:

An eleven year old boy named Casey Rogers pushed the button to implode the former home of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Stadium. He won an essay contest; writing about a ministry he started “Casey’s Heart” that helps the homeless.

Casey’s Heart

 Application:

Jonah went to Nineveh and simply told everyone their city would be destroyed. He “pushed some buttons so to say” to begin the process of destroying the old in order to start something new and improved. Pray for ways you can push a few buttons in people you know. It may be something like praying for the courage to simply invite others to come to a worship service or giving them the link to this devotional site.
