Ezekiel 23

Passage Lookup

In this parable from the Word today, Samaria and Israel represent the sister named Oholah whereas Oholiba represents Jerusalem and Judah. Oholibah should have learned from the example of Oholah who worshiped idols, made alliances with foreign nations, and dishonored God. She didn’t and following the bad example resulted in dire consequences.

We can be different and learn from bad examples; following God instead and the directions He would have us go. Then there is understanding and knowledge that assist in taking the correct path as we journey through life.

My pastor, Steve Ramsdell said in a sermon once that we have three tools that help us make decisions; lessons from the Bible, the Holy Spirit speaking to us deep in our hearts, and experiences of both ourselves and others. For inspirational sermons that can be heard at any place or time, visit this link: FUMC Sermon Podcast.

Life can be incredibly hard and risky but cumulative wisdom is gained with each year of learning from the mistakes made in the previous one.

In prayer today, I’m accepting God’s grace and that the Holy Spirit might take down any temptations that would otherwise keep me off path. This day with God, I’m thinking about how I can apply my faith in all I do. I believe it will be an amazing day for anyone that is determined to put God’s guidance into practice.

Ezekiel 22

Passage Lookup

The people of Jerusalem dishonored God and in this passage, the prophet Ezekiel delivers a message from God. The types of sins included worshiping idols, ruining families, impoverishing widows and the fatherless, accepting bribes, taking usury and excessive interest for unjust gain from neighbors, extortion, robbery, oppressing the poor and needy. Because of the corruption, Ezekiel delivers this message from God about the ensuing punishment.

This day with God, the lesson is to honor God and let Him be a part of every activity of your day.  If not, the results are what we read about in today’s passage. Our society can’t succeed on its own. We need to be on the side of God; promoting prayer and uniting as one nation under God.

Sometimes wrong choices are made but each day is a new day where we can choose forgiveness, humbly return to God in prayer, and ask for directions.

I’m reminded of the video above as I read this passage. Take a few minutes to click the video or this link: The Redeemer – Sanctus Real. My hope is that it inspires as you spend this day with God. Be thankful that because of the Redeemer, we can start over. Each day we wake up, we can still dream and believe because God can make anything new.

List any videos you are reminded of as you read this passage.

The above video is one that came to mind. You can either click the video above or click this link: The Great Adventure by Steven Curtis Chapman. My hope is that it inspires you as you  spend this day with God.

From today’s passage, the Lord is about to sever ties with Jerusalem and all the surrounding land.  The sword is used as an emblem as He pronounces sentence and Ezekiel is the one doing the publishing.

This passage tells me that the Lord is leader of us all and we should follow our wise leader. He doesn’t want use to sit back and just be safe and good but He wants us to make a stand, take chances, and do great things that glorify Him.

Faith gives initiative to take the first step into the glorious unknown. Studying, growing, praying, and doing good works is a great adventure; not only helping yourself but others in the process. This day with God will be amazing because we can read about thoughts from others thousands of miles away and interact with them on-line.
