Asking for Guidance Along Life’s Best Path

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. – Matthew 6:33

Brought out in the post “Regular Habit” was that Moses would go to a tent set up away from the camp to meet with God. He would get instructions about how to lead his people. As we begin each day, it’s important that we do the same as we ask for guidance along life’s best path.

Moses cared about his people; refusing to stay put but ready to move when God instructed. Receive inspiration in the song I Refuse by Josh Wilson that has some of the same points as we face the challenges ahead in fulfilling our purpose.

Regular Habit

We have read in a previous passage that Moses returned from the mountain after meeting with God and the people were worshiping a golden calf. God was so angry that He wanted to destroy the people but Moses prayed for them and God spared them. Their lives were spared but God would no longer be with them. Instead, He would send an angel to help as they continued to the Promised Land.

Even though the relationship between God and the people was strained, the relationship which existed between Moses and God as described in Exodus 33 is one that was friendly. The regular habit of Moses was to go to a tent set up away from the camp to meet with God. Joshua would go with him. He would meet God there as we are told that a pillar of cloud would be at the entrance of the tent (v. 9).

Just like Moses, we should be intentional about our relationship with God. We should constantly feed our soul with God’s Word and plan out each day by doing what is most important. When we ask for God’s help to fulfill our purpose, just one small step forward starts a journey that gets us further than we ever thought we could go.

This day with You Lord, we have read about Moses who allowed You come into his life at the age of eighty. At whatever age, we can also turn aside and let You use us for a great purpose. This day can be amazing because we are getting ready for the challenges ahead. We come to the ONE who created it all and are passionately stirring each other up to boldly step ahead. Amen.

Ability with Humility

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. – Matthew 23:12

There are times when we have no control over things and the only ability we have is to go to God in prayer and humbly receive the power only He can give. Those we lead make messes and we clean them up only to be pulled back into their messes again. During it all, the thing we must do is keep calm, care for them, and keep shining the light.

In the post “Qualities of Leadership Found in Moses”, we find that Moses continued to mediate for his people and was patient with them even when they didn’t deserve it. Take inspiration from this song Come As You Are by Crowder. Let us see hope for the hopeless because all who believe in Christ are precious in God’s sight. They can come as they are and fall in His arms.

Qualities of Leadership Found in Moses

The events laid out in Exodus 32:15-35 raised some good points in how to respond when those we lead let us down. When Moses came down from the mountain, the people were worshiping a golden calf they had made. At first, Moses reacted like most of us would with anger by throwing down the tablets in which the Ten Commandments were inscribed; breaking them into pieces (v. 19).

Within this passage are some qualities of leadership we can pick up from Moses. One is how the Levites rallied to Moses when he said “whoever is for the Lord, come to me (v. 26).” Another is when Moses went to the Lord in prayer to discuss the people worshiping the golden calf. He became a humble advocate for his people by asking God to forgive their sin – but if not, he then ask God to blot him out of the book He has written (v. 32).”

God’s response to Moses was that those who have sinned will be punished. He told Moses that a terrible disease would be brought on the people but He told Moses to continue leading the people to the Promised Land. Just as Moses, we need to go to God and humbly ask for mercy.

This day with You Lord, help us to humbly accept that there will be some things in life that we have no control over. Like in today’s passage, Moses had no control over his impatient people waiting for him at the bottom of the mountain. Help us to respond like Moses in these situations by praying for them. Help us to be the link that connects Your power to them and shows them the Way. Amen.

The Week Ahead

This week, we will continue the journey and share more thoughts from the study of Exodus 32 and 33.

Below are some questions for reflection:

Exodus 32:15-35
* What qualities of leadership do you observe in Moses? What is the attitude of Moses when he went to the Lord to talk about the people worshiping the golden calf? Moses pleads to God for mercy on the people and what is God’s answer to Moses?

Exodus 33
* What is Moses’ regular habit? Who goes with him? What evidences that he actually meets God there? What kind of relationship exist between Moses and God? What steps will you take towards creating a friendship with God?

Believe that God has a great plan for you.

Victory starts by having a plan. By accepting God’s plan for us, all we need to do is follow and believe He will provide the power. He will give the upper hand to make what seems impossible possible.
