Released from the Law but Bound to Christ

In Romans 7:1-6, Paul uses the institution of marriage to explain the Christian’s relationship to the law. If one spouse physically dies, they are no longer bound to each other and the spouse that remains alive is released from the marriage and allowed to marry someone else.

In a similar way, Paul explains that we are released from the old written code but bound to Christ and given a new way in the Spirit. This allows us to better apply our faith and do some amazing things together. Each day can be an adventure as we learn from each other and work towards what God wants us to be.

Therefore, let us move forward with excitement and live each day to the fullest. Let us marvel at the sunrise and the sunset, the flowers blooming, the birds singing, and the children growing. Let us step ahead with the power of the Spirit giving unlimited power for each hour, delight for each day, and a future filled with hope.

God is with us and it’s exciting to think about what He’s going to do in the future. With God, we can get through anything as we patiently get through difficulties and as we celebrate the victory we will always have through Christ.

This day with You Lord, we have a choice at how we look at our jobs and our responsibilities. We can make excuses or we can be a part of making an impact in our world.  We want to savor each moment as if soaking in the warmth of a sunny day. Opportunities to do great things are right in front of us so we pray that we give You our best. Help us to understand that any difficulties we face will only provide the resistance needed for strength and endurance to build a victorious life. Inspire us to live out loud as we pray, listen for instructions, and get things done today. In Jesus name. Amen

Questions for Reflection for Study of Romans 7-8

Paul writes the letter of Romans to the church at Rome while in Corinth on his third missionary journey. Within this letter is a detailed explanation of the Gospel. Paul introduces himself as a servant of Christ Jesus. He gave the church at Rome some facts of the Gospel; that it was promised from the beginning, that Christ died for our sins on the Cross, and that all who believe in Christ as the Son of God receive eternal life.

Even though we have different strengths, God has made us all for a purpose and we need to celebrate differences. Some are skilled in teaching, some are skilled in administration, and others may be skilled in encouragement. We may also have some weaknesses but let us be thankful that God always remains faithful, true, righteous, and just.

Rather than expecting perfection from others, we can accept each other as a child of God and work in unity using the specific gifts God has given us. Then we are not competing against each other but against our enemies like doubt, bondage, and hate.

God’s law helps us to see our faults and understand that we need help. Jesus is that help and the Spirit gives us the freedom to start new, to plan, to think and come up with ideas that make us better. God’s way to righteousness is not by legal obedience but by faith in Jesus Christ. It’s all about what Christ has already done to provide the clear path to victory.

Explained in the post “From Death to Life” is how the pattern of sin and death was broken by the free gift of Christ. The grace of God and the gift of righteousness reigns in life eternal. There’s no better deal in the world. To me, it makes good sense to take it.

So, the victory starts with one small step; one small step toward Jesus and those who step ahead will find that they can get further than they ever thought we could. Faith is like uncut diamonds that are improved and made into bright gems for a useful life. For it is through faith in His Son that this great power of the Holy Spirit is received.

Instead of building up an account like a bank account or a 401K account with money, we build up God’s eternal account with faith. One way to build up this eternal faith account is to capture thoughts from the Bible, from sermons, from experiences that we go through or those who we know go through. Other ways to build up eternal faith is gathering inspiration from music or photos.

I take my dog for a walk in the evenings and she loves it. She lives for the moment as she listens to the sounds of birds in the air and identifies the scents along the ground. She notices the change of seasons as it cools in the fall and warms up in the spring. We should follow this example as God walks with us in life; living for the moment, listening to Him, and following our Master’s direction.

Paul’s message for the church is that wWe are united with God through Christ who conquered death. We are a new person in Christ with the purpose of serving a great God who has given us the help of a body of believers. Just as a triple-braided cord is not easily broken, we are made stronger when we unite together. We can feed each other Spiritual food for the soul to fulfill God’s purpose. There is no need to worry or nothing to fear for we are free to be the person God wants us to be.

This day with God, know that you have a role to play because you have will and will is more important than skill. Choose to be on God’s side for He is always right. All winning teams have a game plan and the reading plan below will be used as I share over the next few posts. Let us be thankful that Jesus is God’s plan for us and by accepting Him as Savior; we have taken the steps necessary to make this day with Him amazing!

Will is More Important than Skill

For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. – Colossians 1:13-14

The post “Instrument of Righteousness” was about yielding to God and using this as the catalyst to ultimate victory in life.  On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate yourself in yielding to God’s will and being used as an instrument of righteousness?

You have a role to play because you have will and will is more important than skill. Choose to be on God’s side for He is always right.

In the song My Victory by Crowder, one point made is how the Cross which was meant to kill was used to bring victory for you and me. To step ahead, let us think about what the enemy uses to attack us with. Let us think about ways to turn it against the enemy and use as a means to bring victory to many lives today.

Instrument of Righteousness

Explained in Romans 6:12-23 is the need to consistently remain in a position of being with Christ. To make victory practical in your life, first understand what Christ has done for you. Pointed out in the passage is that Christians should offer themselves to God as an instrument of righteousness (v. 13).  A Christian is no longer under the law but under grace (v. 14).

Then, know that your will has a major role in deciding what has dominion over you. Recognize what tempts you. Is it your eyes that want to wonder, your ears that want to listen to gossip, or your tongue that wants to embellish or spread lies. If temptation knocks on your door, don’t let it in. Instead, send Jesus to the door.

This day with You Lord, we will let Jesus answer the door because along the journey there are times we feel that we’ve lost our edge over what tempts us. Today, we are being honest and we now yield to You in order to be used as an instrument of righteousness. Affirm in us always that the Cross is a tangible witness that You are in control because the tomb is empty, we follow a risen Savior today, and the reward for the future is eternal life. Amen.

Life with God

You can meet your needs with the help of God who gives you strength. The first part is to believe that you can receive it. The Bible tells us that we should have confidence in God and that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Take inspiration from this poem and remember that every day you have greater opportunities than you ever had before simply because you are the beneficiary of the past.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

In order to meet needs,
persist when times are tough
and know with confidence
God is big enough.

Ask for anything
according to His will
knowing He will hear
and give you the skill.

Ask for it to be given;
continue to cope and
knock so the door
will be opened.

Everyone who ask;
who always believe
and constantly seek
will endure to receive.

For a life with God
brings abundant joys
with grace, power,
and eternal poise.
