Show Me the Way

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
For I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
For to you I entrust my life. – Psalm 143:8

Receive the Big Picture

There have been some amazing inventions in technology over the years. I remember when we went to the first birthday of my niece’s newborn son. The town we went to was small many years ago but today it is one of the fastest growing suburbs of Austin Texas. Finding the location of the birthday party would have been very difficult forty years ago but made easy today with GPS navigation.

In 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, two viewpoints are considered; the world view and the God view. Pointed out is that the wisdom of this world has been made to look foolish at times. If you think about the history of the world, I think we could all agree that experts in various fields seem to miss what should be obvious. Wrong data is captured and various opinions interfere in the accuracy.

Yet, the God view allows us to factor in the amazing unseen qualities in order to receive the big picture. Those of faith accept what Christ did on the Cross. They are able to balance faith with life experiences in order to be more precise in their thoughts rather than only accepting one viewpoint and being closed minded to the amazing unseen qualities of God.

This day with You Lord, we have available to us more knowledge and the use of greater inventions than ever before. The vast Information available and the latest inventions are impressive but can’t match up to the forever amazing power of Your work on the Cross. This perfect work never needs an upgrade and is available to us at any place and at any time. Downloading the Gospel message in our heart takes us to a place beyond what we could ever imagine. Today, our navigation tool is Your Word and we follow Jesus! Amen.

Power of the Cross

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Romans 15:5-6

One point written about in the post “Pulling Together with Christ” is that unity comes from having a common purpose and all Christians should agree about the purpose of the Cross. Around this agreement, there is great power to organize and be victorious against anything that goes against this great purpose.

The church is a community of people working together with Christ as their leader. We are stronger together and God’s Plan for Us not only changes our individual life for the better but also the world is changed for the better.

Let us be inspired by the song How Great is our God by Chris Tomlin and know that everything is possible because of the power of the Cross.

Pulling Together with Christ

Paul writes with the authority of an apostle of Christ Jesus (v.1). 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 was written in response to some difficulties the Christians at Corinth were having. There were divisions in the church and some moral issues among other things.

Paul is thankful for the growth of the members of this church. He applauds the work they have been doing and the spiritual gifts among them but appeals to them to pull together with Christ as their leader.

Like during the time of this writing of Paul, we face many of the leadership issues today. People disagree with who to follow. Personal interests produces disunity within our society and there is a crisis of leadership.

There are steps we all can take to promote unity among Christians in our schools, businesses, communities, and churches. Unity comes from having a common purpose and all Christians should agree about the purpose of the Cross. Around this agreement, there is great power to organize and be victorious in the battle against anything that goes against this purpose.

Even if disunity exist, we can be thankful that God has given us Jesus Christ to pull us all together. We can use our various ideas and skill sets to add that missing piece in someone’s life. With the words we say or the ideas we give, it just might make all the difference between helping someone have a good day or a bad day.

Pull together for a common purpose to promote good values in our schools, businesses, communities, and churches. This photo was taken at my daughter’s field day activities at her school 5/20/2010.

This day with You God will be amazing because of the gift You have given us in Your Son Jesus Christ. Because of Christ, the Holy Spirit directs our steps, and Your fellowship of believers all work together. We are never alone and the community of faith offers various skill sets and ideas that can help fix the problems we may have at work or at home. For these reasons, we are grateful today. Amen.

Homerun

This poem is about a baseball player preparing for a game. He dreams about seeing the ball clearly and hitting the ball solid. This same idea can be applied each day as we pray and plan out our day with God.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

A baseball player
Prepares for the game
Dreaming about fame
And making a name.

Seeing the pitcher
Starting to rock back
To deliver the ball
So he could take a whack.

Focused on the ball
As vivid as could be
Seeing every detail
And feeling carefree.

A low inside fast ball
Almost in slow motion
The hitter is composed
But full of emotion.

Meeting the ball
With perfect timing
Seeing it uplifted
In the air like lightning.
