The Difference Maker

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him. – Philippians 2:13

A thought in the post “Helping and Encouraging” is that Paul wants people to grow spiritually. He wants them to set aside a sum for the collection so the church grows and the poor can be helped. That they go to God and believe the doors of opportunity will be opened.

What God gives is a positive affirmation of love through His Son Jesus Christ. This is God’s Plan for Us; a plan that is a treasure and the difference maker in life. The more you lose yourself in this plan, the more passion you will have. Receive encouragement from the song Different by Micah Tyler. Want to be different and gain what matters. Want to be changed and be set apart.

Helping and Encouraging

Paul gives directions and reasons for giving to the poor in the passage 1 Corinthians 16. On the first day of every week, each person should set aside a sum of money for a collection so that the poor are helped.

Paul desires that other Christians grow spiritually. That people go to God and believe the doors of opportunity will be opened. The impossible does become possible if there is commitment with faith, courage, and love.

Friendships are very important because we have others to go through life together and when two are working together, there is greater strength, fulfillment, and impactful living. The photo above was taken when my daughter and her friends were heading back to Abilene after spending the weekend in Waco to attend the Baylor/Abilene Christian University football game.

This day with You God, help us to be people who are looking for ways to help and encourage our brothers and sisters. The best way we can do that is to share with them the positive affirmation You give us through Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen

By Our Side to Bring Victory

Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting? – 1 Corinthians 15:55

We face an evil enemy but God is faithful to be by our side to bring victory. As explained in the post “Truths of the Resurrection”, the mystery of the resurrection is that the dead will be raised into the realm of immortality. At this point, death is defeated.

There may be times when projects are due, bills are due, or for a business owner … payroll must be met. When people get in panic mode, don’t follow or listen … just keep heading steadily towards the victory.

This day with God, take inspiration from the song My Victory – Passion (Feat. Crowder).

Truths of the Resurrection

In 1 Corinthians 15:35-58, Paul uses the parallels in nature to help the Corinthians grasp truths of the resurrection. He used the illustration of farming and how the farmer does not plant the living plant but the seed. Also with flesh in that people have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another (v. 39). Then he uses the sun, moon, and stars to explain the differences in splendor between heavenly bodies and earthly bodies.

Our present body and the one Christ gives us at the resurrection is related but not the same. Our present body is perishable but at resurrection will be made imperishable. The mystery of the resurrection is that the dead will be raised into the realm of immortality. At this point, death is defeated.

This attitude of death being swallowed up in victory gives us a new outlook right now and into the future. We can do the work of the Lord by applying faith, hope, and love. We can grasp the lessons of the life-giving spirit from others. We can be at peace in knowing that God gives us victory over death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This day with You God, help us to grasp the truths of the resurrection. Help us to remain steadfast knowing that You are in control of our future and will give us the victory. As we face an evil enemy, we are assured of victory through Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Star

This day with God, look for stars among you. The star may be a friend to thank, a post to share, or a Bible verse. There are many stars to be thankful for today and especially the Christmas star that led the wise men to Jesus. Live each day knowing that because Jesus was found, the future with Him will be beyond what we could imagine.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

Just like the wise men
Looking for Jesus again,
Gaze for a star today
To lead the way.

Search with persistence
Even under resistance
For the star is a friend
Or new song to send.

A Bible verse
Ready to disperse
Or sermon topic
Being philanthropic.

The star may not be seen
But there is good we glean
From each other
to help us go further.

To be led to Jesus;
The ONE born for us;
An enormous plus
For God is among us.
