Decisions

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” – which means, “God with us. ” – Matthew 1:20-23

There are things we can learn from history that will help in making decisions. The problems we go through in life are not stop signs; they are guidelines and it is during tough times that He provides sure signs of a brighter future.

Even though Joseph did not understand, he had to make a decision. We too are faced with decisions. There is a role we play and it’s important to know what we are being asked to believe and to obey. – Pastor Wayne Williams

It Takes Courage

As we are getting near the end of the year and start thinking about next year, here is another post in the God’s Plan for Us series. You have unique talents and abilities. Every ability and potential power you have was given by God for a purpose. All it takes is the courage to dream and the courage to plan.

4f39d-top-10-tallest-mountains-annapurnaI received an email a while back from a friend and in this email was a story of a lady who had started a long time ago to plant one daffodil at a time in a field. Now the field is covered with beautiful yellow daffodils. This story points out that if you start something positive even if it’s small, over time you will build something of beauty. Mark Twain said one time, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore – Dream – Discover.”

Divine Interruption

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. – Matthew 1:18

I was listening to a sermon one time of my Pastor Wayne Williams about the scripture above. He said Joseph was set to be married to Mary when he finds out that Mary was pregnant. His life was divinely interrupted.

Let us ask ourselves, where is my live being interrupted? We may be going along just fine when all of a sudden, we hit a road block with our job, with a relationship, with our finances. It is during these times that God can do amazing things.

If facing difficulty, focus on how big God is. He might get your attention on a beautiful clear night looking up at the stars. He might shout to you in a thunderstorm or paint a beautiful rainbow in the sky.

Make a mental list of when He has taken care of you during times of worry. Believe He will keep you in perfect peace because of your steadfast faith and that you will be touched with His divine power.

Christmas Star

The presents at Christmas are short term but God’s presence is forever.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

Just like the wise men
Looking for Jesus again
Gaze for a star today
To lead the way

Search with persistence
Even under resistance
The star may be a friend
Or new song to send

The star may be a sermon topic
Inspiring many to be philanthropic
The star may be a Bible verse
So negative thoughts disperse

Find what can’t be seen
The intangibles we glean
Invest in one another
To help us go further

And to be led to Jesus
The ONE born for all of us
So the Spirit is among us
Turning a negative to a plus

Born for the person next door
In need of being cared for
Born for a colleague
Distressed from fatigue

Receive the gift for our questions
As the Spirit gives suggestions
A gift for our struggles
And all our troubles

For the negative past is undone
By accepting His Son
