A Healthy New Start

Some weeks can be tough but God provides music for our ears, laughter for our souls, and a rainbow after every storm. Have a great weekend my friends! Enjoy this poem inspired from reading and reflecting on Genesis 5.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

Noah carried out God’s plan
In building the ark
To wash away sins
And to give a new start

The flood destroyed everything
But never again though
For the symbol of God’s promise
Is the beautiful rainbow

Today, God can provide music
For our ears, laughter for our soul
And a rainbow after every storm
Because His Son makes us whole

His Word provides food for the mind,
His Son creates light to a better day
And by accepting Him as His Son
Our sins are washed away

Today, we can walk with God again
With a mighty strength
The blessing of the Trinity
All together within arm’s length

So accept Christ as Savior,
Study scripture as fundamental
And take care with exercise
For our bodies are God’s temple

Build great memories
That continue forever after
With fewer times of worry
And many more of laughter

Reminisce about good times

Our Amazing Creator

In the post Nothing is too Difficult for the Lord, we learn the lesson that all things are possible for the Creator of all things. Sarah was up in age but the promise was made that she would have a child. There is always hope when God is in the driver’s seat and we are doing what is right.

The problem is that sometimes we do not follow His direction. As was the case of those in Sodom who were not doing what was right in God’s eyes. Abraham had a nephew named Lot that lived in Sodom and the Lord listens to Abraham’s request as Abraham intercedes for Lot before God’s judgment falls upon the city.

Remember friends, faith gained on Sunday will pull us through on Monday so we can step ahead into Tuesday. It’s hard to understand but God can pull us through. Here’s a song about the fact that God is beyond description: Indescribable – Chris Tomlin.

For nothing is impossible with God. – Luke 1:37

Nothing is too Difficult for the Lord

The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre along with two angels as recorded in Genesis 18. Abraham met them and invited them to stay for a while, rest, and have a meal. They agreed so as Sarah was preparing the meal, the conversation turned to Sarah having a child.

Sarah overheard the conversation and laughed at the thought of having a child at such an age (vv. 11-15). She was beyond child bearing age and her laugh was one of disbelief. The Lord heard her laugh and asked why she lacked the faith to believe that all things are possible for the Creator.

The conversation then turned to Sodom. The nephew of Abraham named Lot and his family was among the people in Sodom and Abraham showed concern; hoping the Lord would spare the city if there were a few righteous people among them.

Abraham was interceding for any righteous people of Sodom and God was listening to his prayer. We learn that God did consider what Abraham was asking. This day, we can also know that God listens to our prayers. We can ask for direction in what we do and know that one day at a time, the impossible can become possible.

In the Presence of the Maker of the Heavens

Abraham wanted to be a father of blessed children and as written about in the post Promises Given, God was with Abraham. He made a promise to Abraham that He would be the father of many nations.

We can ask what it is that we want out of life and like Abraham, seek God’s guidance; patiently waiting for our reward. God is with us and we can lift our voice to Him in prayer to discuss our burdens and listen for the promises He gives us.

Planning for this day In the Presence of the Maker of the Heavens, here’s a video to inspire as we pray for our day and ask how to respond to His promise: In Your Presence – Jeremy Camp.

And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. – 1 John 2:25

Promises Given

God identifies himself in Genesis 17 as God Almighty and He makes a promise to Abraham which is known as the Abrahamic covenant.  The essence of this covenant is that God would bless Abraham with a son and his descendants would be fruitful in the land which God would give them. He would be the father of many nations.

Easter is coming soon. Last Easter, we met for our family get together at Washington on the Brazos. For those of you that have not had the opportunity to visit Texas or have not studied its history, it has a fascinating past; for a time, it was an independent nation from 1836 through 1846.

Washington on the Brazos is the location of what was the national capitol of the Republic of Texas after winning its independence from Mexico and it is now a state park. About 60 miles southwest of Houston, my family met at the park and had a picnic. Afterwards, we played kick ball (parents against kids) for a while and then some of us went in the museum there at the park. One thought I had after going through the museum is that it makes you appreciate those that went through the rough times to establish the states and nations in which we live.

Being the father of many nations was a great promise given to Abraham, he responded by falling facedown before God in humility; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety (v. 17)? The seal of this promise was circumcision and Abraham did what God told him to do as he took Ishmael and all the males born in his household to be circumcised.

What promise has God given you? For me, I feel this blog is one of His promises to me as I share each day about my journey through the Bible. Hopefully, it will not only help myself but others throughout their journey.  Many today believe that God’s Word is not worth much but that’s a lie. Some say the Word of God is outdated and not useful in today’s world. I’m here to say that God’s Word is full of value worth more than nuggets of gold which will pay off in untold benefits for our life on earth and beyond.

When God promises something, we are able to visualize what will happen in the future. We remain steadfast because we sincerely believe that each obstacle will be overcome and enthusiastically act upon each task until completion. We celebrate along the way our progress towards receiving the rewards God has for us by praising Him.
