All Things are Possible with God

While building the ark, there were probably many reservations, fears, doubts, and problems that Noah encountered but he responded to this incredible instruction from God with purpose and resolve.

Here is a link to a poem I wrote about this accomplishment of Noah and how it can inspire us because with God all things are possible: It May Rain but He Still Reigns.

Courageous Action Leads to Victory

Lessons can be learned from reading or through experiences of the past. In yesterday’s post Taking on Issues in Life Head On, we pointed out in reading Genesis 20 that Abimelech went right after a problem to solve it. He confronted the issue, asked questions to understand, and took the necessary steps to solve it.

During challenges in life, we can gain inspiration from remembering the suffering of Christ on the cross and how this courageous act led to victory. Here’s a video to inspire us today: Embrace the Cross- Steve Green.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20

Taking on Issues in Life Head-on

Abraham moved to another region and he again told everyone that Sarah was his sister as he did in Genesis 12:10-19. In Genesis 20, Abraham wants her described as his sister to protect him because he was afraid another man would kill him for her. The king of Gerar named Abimelek takes Sarah in but God tells him in a dream that she is a married woman (v. 3).

Life is full of challenges and if we act without God leading us, there are always problems. We all can have downfalls in life and two major reasons are fear and insecurity. Like Abraham who had an insecurity problem that led to deception, we sometimes have fear in today’s world because of what others may think about us and this leads to deception.

Character flaws can seep in when we lack the courage to stand up for God and follow His ways. As we go through life, we may notice that unchristian people at times are more ethical than Christians. Being a Christian takes continual growth and discipline. If we start to get off the path, things can get difficult fast.

To stay on the path, we need to continually meet with God in prayer and there is an efficient and effective way to meet with God; every activity, every conversation, every problem, and even every thought. We can get ready for the challenges of each day by going to the ONE who created it all and passionately stirring each other up to boldly step ahead.

Let us live by this verse:

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20

His Brilliant Light is Shining over Us

As with the record of Lot being led to safety and away from the destruction of Sodom, we can be assured that God will send angels to protect us. He watches over us wherever we are and will lead us away from danger.

Sing and recite; use psalms, poetry, and songs like this one to praise the Lord today: God of Brilliant Lights – Aaron Shust.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28

He Watches Over Us and Protects Us

Reading in Genesis 19, two angels came to Sodom to see if there were any righteous people in the city. Lot was sitting at the gateway of the city and invited them to his house. The first night of their stay, men of Sodom surrounded Lot’s house demanding to have sex with them. The men wouldn’t go away and began to break down the door. The angels pulled Lot inside and struck the men with blindness so they could not find the door (v. 11).

The angels knew at this time that the city had to be destroyed so they told Lot to gather his family and leave immediately. When Lot hesitated, the angels grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them (v. 16).

As with this passage and how Lot was protected, we can feel confident that because God is with us, we will be protected and led to safety. He watches over us wherever we are and all will work out for us. This day with God, let us take in the lessons of this day and look forward to amazing lessons of tomorrow.

There are some negative lessons to take away from today’s passage. One is how Lot’s association with the people of Sodom had negative results. He escaped the burning sulfur the Lord rained down upon Sodom and Gomorrah but his wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt (v. 26).

Another lesson is how harmful it is to be surrounded by people that give no pattern for living the way God would like. Lot’s daughters had grown up in a place where there was no shame or sense of sin. After the destruction of Sodom, they were alone because the men they were to marry had died. They saw that their chances of getting married and having children were slim (v. 31) so they saw no wrong in getting their father drunk and sleeping with him in order to carry on the family line.

Both daughters became pregnant by their father. The older daughter had a son named Moab who became the father of the Moabites. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi who became the father of the Ammonites (vv. 36-38).
