Believe and Have No Need

hands-250Reading in Acts 4:32-37, the believers became of one heart and mind. It is apparent that they were filled with the Holy Spirit as they shared everything they had and powerfully testified to the resurrection of Jesus.

In today’s passage, the believers were in no need as they pooled their resources. Those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need (V35).

There was a profound change in the disciples’ mode of living. God’s grace provided all they needed to satisfy their aspirations in this world. This day with You God, we can take note and look forward to some amazing changes for us because the Holy Spirit is still at work. We ask today Lord for solutions to the issues we face at work and within our homes. As we tap into this great resource called the Holy Spirit, help us to be of one heart and mind to spread Your Good News. Amen!

The Spirit Aflame

Here is a poem inspired by a recent sermon at the church I attend. Today, share the inspiration received from one of the great sermons in your community. Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

fire-heaven-heartThe aim should always be
That no one remains the same
But that everyone is changed
And the Spirit is aflame.

Relationships change us
As we meet new folks
Who we learn from
And help us grow like oaks.

Margin changes us
As we spend time alone
To recharge or reflect
And get into the Spirit zone.

Circumstances change us
As we take on new tasks
That challenge us to the max
As we go to God and ask.

Disciplines change us
As we meet each other
To fellowship together
And set out to discover.

A personal ministry changes us
As we fulfill our purpose
By being a volunteer
Or providing a service.

So continue to change
As we turn over any fear
Over to God in prayer
Throughout this year!

Sermon Thoughts

makeadifference1

The message last week at the church I worship was titled “Sweet Dreams – What Keeps You Up At Night? Am I Making a Difference”? Here is a link to the podcast which is live at 9:30 central time each Sunday morning or viewable at any time or place thereafter at this link: http://fumcwaco.sermon.net/main/main/20304944

To make a difference and win the world for Christ, it takes churches that agree on who Christ is and work together. A few ideas may include doing more with less, equipping people to use their gifts, and partnering with each other in reaching people for Christ.

This weekend, share a thought from one of the great sermons in your community or from a podcast.

He Blesses Those Who Seek His Advice

In the study of Peter and John as written about in the post Movers and Shakers, we get an example of their boldness as they stood up to the rulers, the elders, and the teachers of the law. They went through trying times but they were bold, they knew the power in Christ, and they prayed for their needs.

Let us also be bold today, pay attention to our dreams, and take action to create better situations for our future and the future of our loved ones. God blesses those who seek His advice and follow through with His guidance. Let us look forward to better times ahead and take inspiration from this video: Blessings – Laura Story.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. – Romans 8:26-27

Movers and Shakers

Reading in Acts 4:13-31, the men of the council said nothing publicly in opposition to Peter and John who had healed a lame beggar in Jesus’ name. They were astonished at the courage and power Peter and John had demonstrated. On top of that, they could all see that the man who had been healed was standing there with them (v. 14).

The rulers, the elders, and the teachers of the law were concerned about Peter and John because the news of this miracle in Jesus’ name would spread. They had been successful at killing Jesus but His resurrection and now the power received from the Holy Spirit threatened the men of the council.

All the people were praising God for the miraculous healing of the lame beggar and this pressure forced the men of the council to let Peter and John go. Upon their release, they went back to their own people and began to pray for boldness to speak God’s word, for power to heal, and to perform signs and wonders in Jesus’ name.

God answers their prayer as the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly (v.31). They pooled their resources together and shared with those in need. They boldly stood up to those against them and testified about Jesus. God’s grace was at work in them as they were of one heart and of one mind (v. 32).

In today’s times, followers of Christ still face trying circumstances. His Word tells us how to live but society and government backed institutions want us to live another way. Many face scrutiny by the media, in some places of the world they face death, and there are false religions that abuse their members. Followers of Christ do not always get the promotions that their secular counterparts do but there is a sure reward in eternal paradise with Christ.

Today Lord, we do question why … so we pray that You enable us for the challenges and give us the confidence because when we pray, we have great power. Through prayer, we are speaking to the ONE who already has the answer. Today, we pray to be movers and shakers so that others see Your power and want to join in. Enable us to speak Your Word with great boldness and apply our faith as we put Your guidance into practice. In Jesus Name. Amen!
