Steadily Heading Towards the Victory

Reading in Joshua 5, the news of God’s actions as explained in Joshua 4 affected the surrounding people. The kings saw how God was with Joshua and they stayed away. They were fearful and no longer had the courage to face the Israelites (v. 1).

In this passage, God commands the renewal of circumcision and Joshua followed His commands even when it seems to go against what would be smart since the men going into battle with the Canaanites would need time to heal.

The passage is also about other types of renewal. The renewal of the Passover, renewal of diet, and renewal of the Lord’s presence. In other words, this passage to me is about waiting on the Lord and taking action at the right time. Sometimes the best thing to do may be nothing. We all need a time for renewal with the Lord on a daily basis. We can do this by studying His Word and sharing it with others.

After this renewal time, we are ready for each challenge and can steadily head towards the victory over the enemy. In any battle we face in life be it anxieties, troubles, or worries; look at them squarely in the eye, and say, “God is bigger; therefore I will not be defeated”

One exercise to build up our confidence is to recite scripture in our mind when in a pressure situations. Scripture like Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength” and other memorized scriptures can be very useful when faced with pressure moments in life.

Lord this day, we are prepared to take action in Your timing. Help us to constantly set some time aside so we can reflect on what is going on and asking for guidance. We can expect some amazing days ahead because You will bless with more victories than all the grains of sand on earth. Amen.

The Week Ahead

This week, we will continue the journey and share some thoughts from the study of Joshua 5-6.

Below are some questions for reflection:
Joshua 5
How does the news of God’s actions as explained in Joshua 4 affect the surrounding people? What about your character is revealed by your response to all of God’s commands? How can we be renewed with the Lord on a daily basis?

Joshua 6
What is God’s promise to Joshua concerning Jericho? How is this battle to be won? What do you learn here about God’s Word to and through His people?

Believe that God has a great plan for you:
Victory starts by having a plan. By accepting God’s plan for us, all we need to do is follow and believe He will provide the power. He will give the upper hand to make what seems impossible possible.

Plans

A poem to inspire fulfilling your God given purpose. Plan for a great weekend my friends!

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

By writing out your plans,
Confidence will grow
With each action step,
The momentum will flow.

For plans not accomplished,
Adjustments are made,
Attitudes are changed,
Bad habits start to fade.

Courage is needed
When feathers are ruffled
As new things are tried
And people are shuffled.

Always be determined
To stick to your plans
And continue to attempt
To win over more fans.

Be inspired from reading
Or watching a podcast;
Through Bible verses
Or photos from the past.

Getting Through the Storms of Life

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

God stopped the flowing river of the Jordan so the Israelites could cross over to the Promised Land. Studying Joshua 4, I shared in the post “Step Ahead with Faith” about the Lord telling Joshua to instruct twelve men to gather twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River. These stone memorials became a reminder of what God had done and will do to help them get through the challenges in life.

We face difficult challenges in our world today but we can be assured that we have what we need in getting through the storms of life if we step ahead with faith. The storms we face can serve as a testimony of how God can pull us through just as highlighted in today’s video Eye of the Storm – Ryan Stevenson.

Step Ahead With Faith

Reading in Joshua 4, the Lord told Joshua to choose twelve from among the people and instructed them to gather twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River (v. 3). These stone memorials became a reminder of what God had done to help them overcome difficulties. As with the people during the time of Joshua, there is peace for us in knowing God has provided in the past and will in the future.

When we face difficulty today, we can remember what God has done to bring us through. Only God can set the path and it is up to each of us to walk the path that leads to a victorious future. Each day can be amazing because He will uplift during difficulty and wash away every disappointment with love and joy. The type of joy that dissolves every sorrow and the type of love that eases the hurts of the past.

The timing in verse 18 indicates that God is in total control even when facing desperate times. For it is in desperate times that God leads us as we step ahead with faith. The type of faith that gives assurance in each moment that God is big enough to help us meet every challenge and bless with the strength to carry on.

Lord, this day we may face some difficult challenges ahead but we have read about what You have done in the past and we have personal testimony of how you have pulled us through. We have many experiences to fall back on and many memories to share. We have a future to look forward to because we know that our dreams will come about in Your perfect timing. Amen.
