Committed to Following Christ

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. – John 15:7-8

As posted in “Order and Patience” about the tent of meeting, the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day and a fire was in the cloud by night. When the cloud lifted, they knew to set out on their travels so it was like the Holy Spirit guiding the Israelites.

Today, this power known as the Holy Spirit is given to all that have committed to following Christ. Take inspiration from the song Lead Me to the Cross – Hillsong as you set out on your journey today.

Order and Patience

Moses inspected the construction of the tabernacle and saw that the Israelites had done just as the Lord had commanded. In Exodus 40, the Lord told Moses to “Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month (v. 1)”. Then the Lord gave Moses other instructions before using the tabernacle for worship.

So the tabernacle was erected and then Moses was guided by God in the arranging of the tabernacle furnishings along with anointing of the holy things. Moses did exactly as God commanded him in assembling the tabernacle but it took time to carry out the long list of tasks to complete. Then on the first day of the first month in the second year the tabernacle was completely set up (v. 17).

Then a cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle (v. 34). The cloud was like the Holy Spirit guiding the Israelites as they traveled. When the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out. The cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day and fire was in the cloud by night (v. 38).

Our lives should be characterized by order and patience as demonstrated in today’s passage. There is freedom in obeying God’s way because God cares for us more than we care for ourselves. So look to the Lord for guidance because He understands what we need and what needs to be done.

This day with You Lord, we look to Your Word and pray for direction for the rest of this day. We strive for good habits like planting Your Word in our hearts, studying, and obeying. We pray that we build our life with orderliness and patience similar to how the tabernacle was built. We praise You for this day and the instructions You give as we set out to give You glory. Amen!

Christ in Me Sets Me Free

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? – 1 Corinthians 3:16

As the title of the post “Obedience in Detail to the Blueprint” suggest, Moses communicated how to carry out the work of constructing the tabernacle just as the Lord commanded.

Within the tabernacle was where the Spirit of God resided during the time of Moses. Because Christ was the ultimate sacrifice for sin, today the Spirit of God lives in all who accept Christ as Savior just as laid out in God’s plan for us.

Take inspiration from today’s video Christ in Me by Jeremy Camp. This day, run free into an unending ocean of mercy. Let the world see that you are free as you shine the light and give a spark that lights up a sometimes dark world.

Obedience in Detail to the Blueprint

Reading in Exodus 36-39, something good that all leaders aim for happened. Moses was able to provide the leadership and was able to delegate the work to build the tabernacle just as the Lord commanded. Obedience in detail to the blueprint and pattern was followed.

The people responded and gave beyond what was needed to carry out the construction of the tabernacle. Even to the point that Moses commands the people to stop bringing their offering because more than needed was received.

The tabernacle was constructed first with immaculate curtains made of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by skilled workers (Exodus 36:35). Then the arc was made with acacia wood overlaid with gold. An atonement cover was made of pure gold along with two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover.

Then the table was made of acacia wood overlaid with pure gold and a gold molding around it (Exodus 36:11). Next, the lampstand of pure gold was made. Then the altars, the courtyard, and the priestly garments. Just imagine the weight and size of the completed structure. I have heard estimates valuing all the gold, silver, and bronze combined in today’s terms would exceed thirty million dollars.

This day with You Lord, we worship You only. In today’s reading, we find out what can happen when Your people keep their eye on the ONE who can make all things possible. When people work together under Your guidance, they can build something amazing just as they did in building the tabernacle. Help us to build an amazing day today as we follow Your plan for us. Amen.

The Week Ahead

This week, we will finish the study of the book of Exodus and share more thoughts.

Below are some questions for reflection:

Exodus 36-39
* What command does Moses give? Why? Do you give God haphazard service or full obedience in detail?

Exodus 40
* What is the time lapse between the erection of the tabernacle and the beginning of worship in it (40:1, 17)? Is your life characterized by disorder and impatience or by orderliness and the ability to wait? Who do you look to for guidance?

Believe that God has a great plan for you.

Victory starts by having a plan. By accepting God’s plan for us, all we need to do is follow and believe He will provide the power. He will give the upper hand to make what seems impossible possible.
