The Word Provides the Roadmap

This day with God, let us take in the wisdom from His Word as we study Leviticus 24 which goes further into the Old Testament rituals and laws. Sin had destroyed from the inside and society was in chaos. To create order, rituals and laws were established.

One ritual established was Aaron keeping the lamps lit and supplying the food offering outside the curtain that shielded the Ark of the Covenant law in the tent of meeting. He supplied the lamps with the purest olive oil to keep them burning. He also arranged the food offering on the table of pure gold before the Lord.

We also learn from today’s reading about God’s justice from the general law. For example: the Shelomith’s son in today’s reading was guilty of cursing the Lord and the punishment was death by stoning.

The expectation was that people would work together with one Spirit but when someone was intent on splitting that Spirit, there were consequences. The law states that the one who inflicts injury must suffer the same injury. The punishment for murder is death, a broken bone for a broken bone, an eye for eye, and tooth for tooth (v. 19-20).

Unfortunately, the people could not follow the law but God has provided the roadmap or Plan For Us.

This day with You Lord we now have the road map to the Way. Jesus has provided the Way to paradise. Without Jesus, we can’t get back to You. But with Jesus, we are one in Spirit and work together to get as many as possible to follow the Way.

Refuse to Lose

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31

In the post “Get Out There”, written about were the activities involved in the annual feasts observed by the Israelites and how we can apply these celebrations in our daily life as we remember and celebrate God’s care for us. With God by our side, we never lose.

Celebrate today with the song I Refuse by Josh Wilson. Get out there and take the path laid down by God with initiative because procrastination is harmful to any endeavor. Refuse not to move and small things will lead to big things when God is involved.

This day with God, be inspired by the following from today’s song:

No more excuses;
Refuse to lose
By choosing to move
And following through
With what God has you to do!

Get Out There

This day with God, we are to be intentional about growing, about what we feed our soul, and doing what’s most important. When we ask for God’s help to fulfill our purpose, there is a ripple effect that gets bigger and bigger. What we pass on keeps the ripple effect going for many years.

Such is the traditional feasts observed by the Israelites and written about in Leviticus 23 as they were passed down from generation to generation. This tradition has carried over to current times as we observe the Sabbath as a day of rest and the celebration of God’s goodness.

Below are the offerings and activities involved in the annual feasts observed by the Israelites:

  • The Passover – On the 15th of January is a food offering of Unleavened Bread
  • The First Fruits – Held after the first grain harvested with a grain offering and lamb
  • The Festival of Weeks – Held at Pentecost with a grain offering and burnt offering of lambs, bull, ram, and a goat
  • The Festival of Trumpets – On July 1st is a day of prayer, meditation, and confession were the people assemble, there is trumpet blast, and food offerings
  • Day of Atonement – July 10 is food offering and fasting
  • Festival of Tabernacles – July 15 for 7 days. After gathering crops, it was a day of feasting, rejoicing, and giving thanks to God for His bountiful gifts much like our Thanksgiving Day

The Israelites celebrated these feasts with an attitude of honor. There is a purpose for the feasts and offerings in Old Testament times. Today, these traditions teach us that we should not just learn about theses traditions in His Word or at church but also apply the lessons learned in our own life and share with others so we are a part of the harvest.

Months are divided into weeks and weeks into days. Days are divided into hours and hours into seconds. Each second is precious and how we spend each second is important. Use each one to glorify God. Then like a ripple effect that gets bigger and bigger, we make a big impact in the world in which we live.

Like the dawn of a new day, celebrate God’s care of you by beginning every day or every business dealing with prayer. Use it as a time to refocus, to be honest about where you have been, and where you are going. Wake up to a bigger dream this day and have the certainty of God’s presence to help you grow into all that He wants you to be.

Lord, this day with You will be amazing because You believe in us. You love us so much that You sent Your Son as the ultimate sacrifice for our sin. Today, we can accomplish more than we ever thought because we are refocused and intentional about growing spiritually as we feed our soul. Help us today to fulfill the purpose You have for us. In Jesus name … Amen.

Further the Faith and Knowledge of the Truth

One idea for facilitating the application of faith is the use of inspirational poems because poetry narrows thoughts to a few lines as a tool to help the mind encourage the heart into tangible actions. This poem is inspired by Titus 1 from the Bible as Paul writes to Titus in Crete and they establish churches in that part of the world.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

Christian leadership
Includes being faithful,
Always Self-controlled,
Upright and stable.

Taking in the Word,
Discovering the Way,
And applying values
To our life each day.

Faith rest on the hope
Of eternity;
Supported by the love
Of God’s paternity.

Guided by the Spirit,
An attribute
Of our soul
Helping to execute.

With direction
For excellence
And a desire
To make a difference.
