Follow the example of Jesus. He rose early in the morning and spent His time with God before He spent His time with the “busyness” of His world. Christ gives us an example of great leadership. He understood about efficiency and put together his team of apostles to send out as His messengers to proclaim his kingdom.

Please receive this Word from God today. Pray for the understanding and willingness to follow the lessons taught. Pray for the ability to apply them to your own situation as you lead others. A person can’t go wrong when building Kingdom wealth. The investment is always less than what they earn, debts are paid for, and long term dividends are extremely high.

Here are two questions for reflection:

  • What general principles given here are applicable to your present situation?
  • How has this reading helped in your thinking about future possibilities?

Matthew 9:18-38

Passage Lookup

The Bible is many books in one with Christ as the center of everything. It is full of action and adventure; it’s true, alive, powerful, and it changes people from the inside out. I remember hearing my Pastor Steve Ramsdell make this point in a sermon: If God feels distant, acknowledge it but expect Him to come near and when He does, reach out and receive the Spirit.

Christ is in the business of healing, changing people, and forgiving sin. In Today’s passage, He brings back the daughter of a ruler from dead, heals a sick woman, heals two blind men, and casts out a demon from a man.

Today, pray for more workers to be raised up and sent forth as God’s messengers. Pray that God comes near today as you reach up to receive the Spirit.

Matthew 9:9-17

Passage Lookup

The Pharisees where asking questions like why Jesus hung around the wrong crowd? They also questioned about following the law. The Law of Moses is about following the commandments and Jesus teaches here about getting the heart right so one can follow the commandments.

It’s easy to look at others and criticize like the Pharisees did in this passage. Jesus does just the opposite by accepting, appreciating, and affirming others. God always takes us back into His arms. Think about it: Moses was a murderer and David was an adulterer yet God used them for great purposes. Moses was used by God to lead His people out of Egypt to the Promised Land. David was used by God to write many of the Psalms we lean on for faith and encouragement.

Today, I learned that I should accept, appreciate, and affirm others but write criticism in the sand near the water’s edge. I’m praying that the Spirit will work within me to follow what Jesus has taught in today’s lesson.

Matthew 9:1-8

Passage Lookup

In this passage, Jesus returns to Capernaum and heals a paralytic. He is demonstrating instead of just speaking words. It’s how you live, give, and love that speak and teach. Those that live out what they say or teach inspire us to be better people. They are channels that lead others to the qualities of Christ.

As I read the passage this morning, it reminds me of a song. Here is the link to a video: How You Live – Point of Grace.  My hope is that it inspires you as you spend this day with God.

How would you answer the question of Jesus in verse 5? Think of ideas to help mesh what you believe with what you do. Pray that you demonstrate to others the power of Christ working through you.
