Deep Respect

The ministry of Jesus is not one-sided as the scene in Luke 7:36-50 explains. In this scene, we have a Pharisee who invites Jesus over for dinner. Jesus is always open to invitations and even though Jesus knew that the Pharisees were against His ministry, He also knew that they needed to hear the Word just as much as anyone else.

Also in this scene, is a woman who was known to have lived a sinful life coming over to the Pharisee’s house with an alabaster jar of perfume. She was weeping and began to wet the feet of Jesus with her tears. Then she used her hair to wipe His feet and she anointed His feet with perfume.

During this time in history, a Jewish women letting down her hair in public was a disgrace. Simon the Pharisee must have been embarrassed and Jesus knew the thoughts of Simon so He shared a parable to explain how it is not the amount of sin that makes a person spiritually bankrupt but it is just the fact that there is any sin at all. Jesus explains that Simon was guilty of the sin of pride and the woman was guilty of the sins of the flesh.

Jesus explained that the woman repented of her sins and put her faith in Him. Kissing the feet of a teacher was a sign of deep respect. Jesus went on to explain that the Pharisees refused to admit their sin and believed only God could forgive them. They could not understand how Jesus could make the statement that the woman’s sins were forgiven (vv. 43-50). They didn’t understand that Jesus was God.

This day with God, we can show the same attitude toward others as Jesus did by giving them deep respect. We can see potential in each other. There is a reward for all who are open, humble, and loving. Lord, help us to be motivated to action by our deep respect of You and the desire to help others accept Your love.

Shine the Light and Prepare the Way

John the Baptist foretold of the coming Messiah but even John wanted confirmation from Jesus that He was the Messiah. During times of difficulty or confusion, God’s guidance is needed and His way is the proven way. His Word helps us to see more clearly and do things as they ought to be done.

Following the Proven Way

The world can be very confusing at times. To make it less confusing, what can be done is to follow the proven way that is right and God’s way is always right. If we give our minds the positive information found in God’s Word, we can see things more clearly and do things as they ought to be done. To build on this thought and give inspiration for this day with God, here’s today’s video: Word of God Speak – MercyMe.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5

Speaking Through Actions

News about the miracles of Jesus spread fast and in Luke 7:18-35, we read about disciples of John the Baptist who were questioning Jesus to find out if He was the Son of God. John the Baptist had been sent off to prison but his disciples kept him informed about Jesus.

John wanted confirmation from Jesus that He was the Messiah. Today’s passage does not say that Jesus answered his disciples directly but the actions of Jesus spoke louder than words. Jesus cured people with diseases, sicknesses, and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind (v. 21).

There was a lot of confusion at this point in the ministry of Jesus because Jesus didn’t come right out and say He was the Messiah. Instead, He proved it in His actions. He healed the sick, He gave sight to the blind, and He preached the Good News to the poor. Then He told John’s disciples to report back what they had seen.

This day with God, we can do like the Disciples of John the Baptist. We can honor true wisdom by reporting about those who have walked the walk and not just talked the talk. We can follow the proven; those who have been there. Our growing faith will never be taken away or depleted. The gospel message has a beautiful and refreshing simplicity about it that sets us free and never lets us down.

Lord, today we come to you in prayer and are thankful for previous generations; those that have been there and done that. These are people we can go to for information. We give honor to them. We also give honor to veterans who have demonstrated courage to fight and pave the way of freedom. In Your name we pray. Amen.

We can Trust

God has unlimited power and this power is demonstrated in the actions of His Son. When we see and hear positive results around us, then more are ready to believe. Then as many begin to trust, it is then clearly revealed in each heart as faith.

We can trust God; He knows what He is dong and the great news is that He is with us. He’s always with us and He holds on to us. Here’s a video to affirm this truth: He Is With Us – Love and the Outcome.

“But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. – Hebrews 10:38-39
