We Have Come a Long Way

We all are special in God’s eyes and are loved beyond measure by God. We’ve all come a long way to be where we are today.

With Him there is a freedom – a freedom that helps us live, give, and love – a freedom that will speak and teach. God’s way does lay out a clear path for us all to follow but as in the post Miracle of Birth about Cain and Abel, many decide to get off the path.

Instead of telling God the truth and repenting, Cain made up excuses for killing his brother. We are all responsible for our actions and if we follow the path laid down by God as we travel along our journey through life, the reward will come in time.

Here’s a video that explains more about protecting our soul and going after God’s reward: House of Gold – Mark Lowry/Michael English/David Phelps.

In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. – Psalm 41:12

Miracle of Birth

As explained in Genesis 4, Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. Perhaps the greatest miracle ever is the miracle of birth. We are a miracle; somebody incredibly special. The language of God called DNA was written out to describe who we are ordained to be.

God made us all and to this day, the human body is far more advanced than any other technologically advanced thing known in the world. The human body is fearfully and wonderfully made and the God of the heavens is the one who put it together. It is when sin enters in that there is a problem.

Going back to today’s passage; as time passed, another son was born named Abel. When Cain and Abel grew and became young men, Abel was in charge of the flocks and Cain grew crops. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel brought an offering – fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering (v. 3-4). This made Cain jealous; so jealous and angry that he killed his brother.

Instead of telling God the truth and repenting, Cain disclaimed responsibility for his actions by explaining that it was not up to him to watch his brother. When God told Cain that he would be cursed and the crops would no longer yield abundance for him, he said he couldn’t bear the punishment and blamed God for his predicament.

We are responsible for our own actions; ruling over our actions and if we maintain our integrity and do what is right, the reward will come in time.  Not only did Cain not do what was right, but he tried to hide the truth from God and didn’t ask for forgiveness; only offering the excuse “I’m not my brother’s keeper (v. 9).”

God, we come to You today with humility; owning up to our mistakes and being honest. We need Your Spirit to give us direction each day. You know everything we do. We are each fearfully and wonderfully made because that is how You made us. There is no need for anger or jealousy because as long as we accept Your son, You have a reward for us. Amen.

Doing What God Says

The fall started with Adam and Eve when the serpent told Eve that the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden would make her wise. Even though she had been told by God not to eat the fruit from the tree, she did because of the serpent’s deception.

God means what He says. Let us not hide from God today but choose above all else to live this day with Him and follow where He leads.

Instead of half way following God today, make it an amazing day and know God helps to plan the right things to do for each day and believe things will fall into place.

Here’s a video to inspire: Here I Am Lord.

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. – Psalm 86:11

Falling into the Trap of Deception

The serpent was crafty; more so than any of the other animals the Lord had made as explained in Genesis 3. Eve fell into the trap of deception presented by the serpent; that God really didn’t mean what He said and that it was okay to eat the fruit from the middle of the garden. The serpent even suggested that the fruit from that tree was better than the other fruit because it would provide insight into knowing the difference between good and evil (v. 5).

Eve gave in to the temptation presented by the serpent by reasoning that the fruit in the middle of the garden looked delicious plus she believed the lie of the serpent that it would give wisdom. She ate the fruit of the tree and then gave some to Adam who ate it too. Then they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves (v. 7).

Afterwards, they heard God walking in the garden but they hid from Him. They no longer wanted to be around God and were ashamed because of their sin. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. Isn’t this how we are today; always blaming others or even God for our sins and problems?

The effect of the fall continues today. The serpent was cursed (v. 14), women suffer pain in child bearing (v. 16), the ground was cursed (v. 17-19) so that humanity has to toil and sweat to make a living, and every person’s body will deteriorate; die and return to dust.

Even though many want to continue to run and hide from God today, the amazing thing is that He continues to seek us and wants to be with us. God even has provided a way for ultimate victory over our human condition. The way is through accepting Christ as Savior.

Quiet Time

We have started a new year my friends! Let us be strengthened by God today and every day this year. Here is poem I wrote with this thought in mind. Have a great weekend!

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

I arise today through a mighty strength
The strength of the trinity
A strength that guides me
A strength that encourages me

Lord, You are above me
You are within me
You are before me
You are below me

I go in peace
I see an increase
Going the positive way
Filling the mind with calm today

Remembering peaceful experiences
Memorizing scripture with seriousness
Having a daily time of prayer
Listening for instructions with care
