Discover the Skills or Qualities You are Blessed With

Reading in Genesis 47, Joseph’s brothers and his father came to live in Egypt because the famine was so severe. Jacob was 130 years old and explained to Pharaoh that he had lived a difficult life. They were allowed to settle in the land called Goshen; the most fertile area of Egypt. There, they could raise their livestock.

The famine persisted and the people paid Joseph for the grain he had stored up before the famine. After they ran out of money, Joseph accepted their livestock as payment for their food. When their money and livestock was gone, Joseph accepted their land as payment.

As manager, Joseph made Pharaoh extremely wealthy. Since he planned for the famine and stored up food, the people had to sell their land and a fifth of the produce in the future in order to purchase the food they needed to survive. Pharaoh became owner of all the land except the land of the priests.

Like Joseph, we can use our strengths in our vocation and everyday duties. We can go to God in prayer, receive the directions we need, and carry them out. Also, we can be a blessing to others like Jacob was when he blessed Pharaoh.

Jacob lived in Egypt for seventeen years and when it came time for his death, he requested that he be buried back in his homeland of Canaan. There is a calmness when we accept our lot in life, let go, and put God in control.

This day with You God, we put You in control. There is strength in Your promise of an eternal future with You. Our greatest strength is in being who we are; Your precious child. Because of this, we have unlimited potential. Use us today to fulfill this potential and serve You. Amen.

The Lord Rewards

Poetry simplifies thoughts, crystalizes ideas, and inspires to action. My thoughts after reading in Genesis 17 have been crystalized into a poem. This day with God, be inspired to action; like Abram, seek God’s guidance and patiently wait for your reward.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

To the Word of God
Is what we have cleaved.
Promises Given;
Rewards received.

Useful for today’s world;
Of More value than gold;
Benefits our lives now;
And as the future unfolds.

Lift up voices to God in prayer,
Seek His guidance,
Listen for the promise,
Have faith in His sustenance.

Visualize how to apply His plan;
Enthusiastically act upon each task;
Overcome each obstacle;
Knock, seek, and ask.

Discuss any burdens
But give praise along the way.
Patiently waiting for the reward
Until the completion day.

Arranging Time with God Results in the Changing of Lives

Jacob faithfully prays to God and receives hope in a dream to finally be reunited with his son Joseph. After all these years and now at an old age, he finally understands what faith is all about. It’s all about prayer and listening to God in order to follow His will. As a person spends time with God, changes do occur as brought to us so well in this video: Changed – Rascal Flatts

Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. – Proverbs 13:10

Visions Bring Decisions

As explained in Genesis 46, Jacob knew that he should settle his family in Egypt because God spoke to him in a vision telling him to go to Egypt. God told Jacob He would go to Egypt with him and after a while bring him back again to Canaan. So Jacob did as God told him and set out towards Egypt along with his family.

After all the years, there is a reunion of Jacob and Joseph. Jacob was now up in years and finally comes to a point where he understands what faith is all about; praying for God’s direction on what to do and submitting to His will. Joseph had changed from an arrogant brother into a humble servant and then a loving brother willing to forgive with so much love for his father. He became second-in-command in all of Egypt and in a position to help his family survive a famine that was sweeping through the land.

God’s will is good, perfect, and acceptable. It also coincides in many cases with our own wants. We should be thankful for the chance to keep at it each day; knowing that if we keep the faith, good things will happen. Through His advice in the Bible and through our prayers, we are fortified.

This day with You God, help us to have the longing to please You. We are highly favored and as we follow Your will, we are confident that good things are coming our way. As we imagine these good things today, we give credit to You. Our confidence and optimism grows each day because You bring victory in our life through Jesus Christ. Amen.

He Loves Us Even When We Do Not Deserve It

Joseph had been sold into slavery many years ago because of his brother’s jealousy but his ability to interpret dreams helped him progress from slave to second-in-command in Egypt. When a famine hit the region, Joseph was prepared because God had told him in a dream that the famine would occur so Joseph had stored up provisions.

In much the same way, Jesus became a servant only to rise up as King. He loves us even when we do not deserve His love and provides for our needs. Today’s video is about this love that has been given to us: You Loved Me Anyway – Sidewalk Prophets.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
