Delegation

Moses had left his wife and sons with his father-in-law Jethro while he had been in Egypt. Reading in Exodus 18, we get the impression that Moses had great respect for his father-in-law. When the Israelites were camped nearby, Jethro was determined to see Moses so he brought his daughter and the two sons with him to see Moses. It was a very happy occasion as Moses was glad to be reunited with his wife, children, and father-in-law.

There were over 600,000 men with their wives and families who were uprooted from their home and traveling through the desert. Many disputes had to be dealt with and Moses shared with his father-in-law about serving as judge for these people. Jethro was concerned that this would put too much of a strain on Moses so he suggested that Moses appoint a group of trustworthy helpers to serve as judges. Moses took his father-in law’s advice and decided to delegate the simple cases. This freed up more time to spend on the more complicated cases.

Lord, as we take on more responsibility, sometimes we get overwhelmed with work and in the passage today, a lesson has been learned about delegation. Many people working together is better than just one person because there is greater creativity, stability, and durability. Thank You Lord for great people that we can surround ourselves with and can count on to help handle the challenges we face throughout life. Amen.

Stepping Ahead Steadily Towards Victory

In the post Developing the Right Attitude, the people still did not get it. They were thirsty in the Desert of Sin and complained to Moses; even ready to stone him but Moses prayed and God told him to hit a rock with his rod and when he did, water came gushing out for them to drink.

Later in the passage, we are told how they overcame their enemy in war. Moses lifted his hands toward God and as long as his hands were above his head showing total dependence on God, the Israelites were victorious.

Each of us face trials in life. There may be times when projects are due, bills are due, or for a business … payroll must be met. Many go into panic mode, but followers of Christ have developed a different attitude.

Followers of Christ just keep stepping ahead steadily towards the victory because they have developed the right attitude; the attitude of “been there, done that” and constantly relying on God’s guidance. The challenges in life are handled victoriously on a regular bases because of their faith.

Followers of Christ know that the King of Glory; Jesus laying down His life for our freedom brings victory into each of our lives. Here’s a video that inspires this thought: This is Amazing Grace – Phil Wickham.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. – Colossians 2:8

Developing the Right Attitude

Again in Exodus 17 we get the account of how the people continued to quarrel as they were traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. Not much progress was made in their attitude towards God’s ability to make things happen in their life. They blamed Moses for the trials they were going through but Moses tried to make it clear to them that it is God who can meet their needs.

Much can be learned from this passage that can orient us in developing the right attitude towards God. It is up to us to become victorious over the trials we face as individuals and as we work together in society. It is not up to some leader, or government, or some secret formula for a better society.

In today’s passage, the key to meeting their need for water when they were thirsty and in helping them to win at war was praying to God for victory. God is big enough to make the impossible possible if we first do what is necessary and then do what is possible. Suddenly the impossible is being done.

This day with You Lord, we can be prepared for anything in life. We just have to step ahead and know that You will pull us through. Times may get tough but faith in You Lord changes everything. We know that what seems impossible can become possible. Lord, we get the upper hand when we support each other for Your purposes. Help us Lord to gain momentum for life, hold each other’s hands up in prayer and know that You will answer with a miracle. In Jesus name. Amen.

Fulfilling a Purpose

This poem was written to inspire us to step ahead towards our God given purpose.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

Fulfilling a purpose
By following a plan
And stepping ahead
Throughout a lifespan.

Out on a mission
To bridge the gap
By changing lives
And following the map.

Beginning each day
With Bible reading
And praying for plans
To follow His leading.

So study His Word,
Write down thoughts,
Come up with ideas,
And connect the dots

God wants to help
Build a great day
He shines the light
To the best way.

He provides the picture
Which is painted for free.
Portrayed in our minds
And becoming reality.

Just What We Needed

The fifth message in the sermon series titled “Never-Never Land” was presented last weekend at the church I worship at. The title of the sermon was “Never Give Up On Grace”. Here is a link to the Sermon Podcast.

Each day, we get a new start by God’s grace. We may miss the mark some days but grace took on flesh and became visible in the person of Christ. Through Christ, we are forgiven and just what we need to be perfect in God’s eye.

To see the worship service live each Sunday morning, just click this link: Worship Service on Facebook. Then look for the latest post where it says Sermon Live. To watch a sermon anytime or place, type in “Sermon Live” in the “Search for posts on this Page” box on the upper left side.
