Raise A Joyous Noise to Praise

Imagine just finishing work on a major project or other major turning point in life like retiring from a successful 40-year career. Imagine taking a vacation to celebrate and you wake up to the view in the picture above.

Today, we are reading Isaiah 40:1-11 and remembering that Jerusalem had been to the brink of destruction but made it through. The prophecy in today’s passage is encouragement for restoration. Unfortunately, Jerusalem would face difficult days ahead because it was prideful and thought it did not need God anymore.

The qualities of God make life simpler, but the qualities of humanity make things complicated. God can take tough situations and turn them into something positive. Out of intense difficulties, God can make simplicities emerge. He can turn boring tasks into something exciting. With God, there is more joy in life, burdens are a little lighter, and time is a little sweeter!

I remember Troy Aikman saying after one of the Super Bowl wins in the 1990s that he felt a little down after the high of the victory celebration. It was good for the first few weeks, but then the pressure of repeating a championship the next year sunk in. There was the feeling that all he had worked for had been accomplished and there was the feeling of what next?

The thought in reading today’s passage is that humanities highest accomplishments are weak and eventually vanish but just a gaze to heaven gives one a reason to raise a joyous noise to praise Christ the King! He is the reward that can never be matched.

As today’s passage points out, one day Jesus will come again to earth and occupy the throne in Jerusalem. What used to be difficult will be made much easier, so reveal the glory of the Lord to everyone around you to prepare the way of the Lord. Think about it. We have many more tools available to us today to reveal the glory of the Lord. God has given humanity tools like a computer or smart phone to share about His Good News!

We face good days and bad days, but when we make a comeback after a difficult day and keep at it, the reward is always much greater so let us keep our eye on the reward and suddenly the breaks will start going our way. God has already given humanity ideas for inventions and discoveries. Think about current times … we can shop, bank, pay bills, read books, and watch movies without leaving our home. What is in store for the future?

Lord, we struggle and strive and meet our challenges only with You by our side. We may miss the mark some days, but grace is just what we need to refresh our souls for the next best thing coming our way. We live in a challenging world that is changing at a rapid pace. With our smart phones, we can find the temperature in New York, in Dallas, in London or Los Angeles. We can text, talk, facetime, write blogs, use social media, and no telling what in the future. But one thing never changes and that is Your dependability. No matter where we are at on our journey, You are with us and that’s why we raise a joyous noise to praise You today. Amen.

Thought From Devotional 03-14-2025

A thought from John 18:28-40 is that Jesus has given everyone a mission or purpose. We are to each pray that we find our specific purpose and affirm others as they pursue their important place in His kingdom. Every person has certain God given strengths and when they can use their individual God given strength, it benefits everyone.

Questions for Reflection of Isaiah 40-44

The journey through the letters of John over the past few weeks has provided us with encouragement and guidance, setting a solid foundation for the path ahead as we delve back into the book of Isaiah. As we continue to immerse ourselves in God’s Word, our goal remains to draw wisdom and insight that will empower us to live out our faith in every aspect of our lives—whether at work, at home, or in our interactions with others. This endeavor promises to be a rich and rewarding experience, fortifying our spiritual growth and strengthening our commitment to applying biblical principles in all that we do.

The reading plan below will be used to hold me accountable as I share about God’s Word. To share about Isaiah, it’s important to have a plan in place. I am thankful that Jesus is God’s plan for us, and by accepting Christ as Savior, we have taken the essential steps to make each day amazing. This plan will guide our journey through the book of Isaiah, ensuring that we gain a deeper understanding of the scriptures and apply them meaningfully in our daily lives.

Questions for Reflection

Isaiah 40:1-11 – What is Jerusalem’s situation in today’s passage? Who is coming to occupy the throne in Jerusalem? What is the difference between the qualities of God and of people? Has the Glory of the Lord revealed in your society? What is your part in preparing the way of the Lord?

Isaiah 40:12-31 – What do you see when you lift your eyes to God? What happens when you are spiritually exhausted? What do you do about it?

Isaiah 41:1-20 – Who is from the east (See Isaiah 44:28; 45:1-5)? What happens as he comes west? In what ways are you on God’s side? How can God help you?

Isaiah 41:21 through 42:17 – What does God challenge the idols to prove? What is God’s proof? How is He going to carry out His proof (See 41:2, 15-16, 25)? How can you give glory to God today? What is the reward for following God’s plan?

Isaiah 42:18 through 43:13 – What is the difference between the situation of the people in 42:25 and 43:2? What knowledge of the kindness and salvation of God is bottled up, silent, inside you? Why? How can you open up this knowledge of the kindness and salvation of God, so others are willing to receive?

Isaiah 43:14 through 44:23 – In plainest terms what does God say he will do for these people? What is Israel’s past history in serving God? What is Israel’s only hope for the future? What is the difference between idols and the ONE true God? When recently have you been aware of God doing a new thing in your life?
