Joyfully Take Possession of What God has Given

Much of the land promised to Moses many years ago had been secured by Joshua. Now in Joshua 16-19, we are told how the land would be distributed to the people as an inheritance.

Upon receiving their inheritance, the attitude of the tribe of Joseph was different from that of Caleb. Joseph and his family lacked the confidence to drive out the occupiers of the land they were given and they complained to Joshua about being given only one allotment. What we learn here, is that the people had a part to play in receiving their land as a reward. They had to be obedient, faithful, and courageous to earn it.

Fortunately for us today, our reward is the promise of the Holy Spirit if we joyfully take possession of what God has given ; the gift of the Holy Spirit by accepting Christ in our heart.

As we go through life, there is a part we play too and it’s important to take one step at a time, stay focused, and take care of the issues ahead. If we do, we can be like Caleb and his people as they daily set out to root out evil so the enemy was completely destroyed. We can seize every opportunity to accept God’s reward. In so doing, we find life, prosperity, and honor.

This day with You Lord, there are many lessons to learn from today’s reading of Your Word. These important lessons of being obedient and having a good attitude towards our work so we can give You all the glory are lessons we can use now. Help us to not only use these lessons now but also pass them on to future generations. In Jesus name. Amen.

Keep Your Eye on the Ultimate Reward

Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.Revelation 22:12

In the post “Following God Wholeheartedly” were some thoughts about Caleb as his reward was finally being realized after 45 years. Sometimes, we may feel that all our hard work will never be rewarded. We may have some good days in our work then one set back seems to destroy our progress.

Making a comeback after a setback by keeping at it always is more rewarding and much more fulfilling. So today my friend, keep your eye on the prize and suddenly the breaks will start going your way. Many times, we get way too uptight about things. Let it keep on going forward and trust that everything will work out if we just do God’s will.

With God, we can sincerely believe that each obstacle will be overcome and enthusiastically act upon each task until completion; celebrating progress throughout each day by praising Him. Here’s today’s video to get us going: O Praise Him – David Crowder Band.

Following God Wholeheartedly

Joshua and his army had conquered the large portion of land promised to the Israelites. Reading in Joshua 14-15, is recorded how the land promised to Moses many years ago and secured by Joshua would be divided. Their inheritances were assigned by lot to the nine and a half tribes, as the Lord had commanded through Moses (Joshua 14:2).

Caleb had a special request that he and his family receive the land God had promised 45 years ago when he had followed the Lord fully (vv. 6-15) in his leadership against the unbelieving spies and people. Caleb waited all these years for the land God had promised him. He had followed God wholeheartedly with courage, was patient and had confidence that God would fulfill His promise. This reward was earned for himself and his family.

One falsehood secular society likes to throw our way is that God’s Word is not worth much because it’s outdated and not useful in today’s world. I’m here today to tell you that even though the reward seems like it will never be received, like Caleb we must maintain our faith; we must have patience and be confident that the reward will be obtained.

This day with You Lord as we study Your Word, we have learned that You are in control of the future and Your promises will be fulfilled if we do what You say to do. Help us today to keep the faith, let the negatives go, and remain faithful as we keep our eye on our ultimate reward of eternity with You. In Jesus name. Amen.

The Target is God’s Will

All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28

Joshua had accomplished much of what God had wanted him to as a large portion of the land promised to the Israelites had been conquered by Joshua and his army. As pointed out in the post “Fulfilling Our Purpose”, Joshua had done the will of God. Reading in Joshua 13, he was now up in age, yet God’s purpose for him was not finished.

Like Joshua, let God be a part of evaluating your current activities to discover if you are on target to fulfilling your purpose in life. The target is God’s will and I hope this song called Thy Will by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family moves in you the need to evaluate your current activities to discover if you are on target to fulfilling the purpose God has for you.
