Tender Whisper

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. – Psalm 19:14

In the post “The Power of Words”, highlighted were some thoughts of the study of Proverbs 15 that the wise speak with encouraging words that uplift at a timely moment but the foolish tear apart crushing all hopes.

This day with God, let us take this instruction to speak with a tender whisper that gives light to the Way. Take inspiration from this song Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin.

The Power of Words

The attributes of God revealed in Proverbs 15 include encouragement yet discipline with concern for those He loves. These are the same attributes a good father has for a child.

The wise speak with encouraging words that uplift at a timely moment but the foolish tear apart crushing all hopes. Even during frustrating moments, we should be careful what we say because the words can be taken in the wrong way.  It’s best to be more optimistic and upbeat when going through issues with the attitude that with God, it’s going to work out.

The emotional stability of the righteous will keep them on the successful path. They are slow to anger, take advice, and say what needs to be said to inspire teamwork towards accomplishment. What a person says today can lead others to achievement or be used to attack them for failure and used against them in the future.

Father God, we’ve learned in today’s passage that words carry so much power and can either build up someone or tear them down.  We pray today that the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart will be pleasing to you. Help us to use the right words at the right time to give a lift to others in a time of need. Amen.

The Week Ahead

This week, we will continue the study of the book of Proverbs and share more thoughts.

Below are some questions for reflection.

Proverbs 15
* What are the characteristics of the speech of a wise and a foolish person? What attributes of God are revealed here? What emotional stability do the righteous have in the face of changing circumstances?

Proverbs 16
* What part do you have in your plans? What part does God have in your plans? What is the lesson in self-control in this passage? To what extent are you able to relate the proverbs to daily living?

Believe that God has a great plan for you.

Victory starts by having a plan. By accepting God’s plan for us, all we need to do is follow and believe He will provide the power. He will give the upper hand to make what seems impossible possible.

Seize the Moment

In sports, there are times when an individual can seize the moment. To either come through in the clutch or go down in defeat. In life, we face the same challenges. Each moment of each day, we can make a big difference. This poem inspires this thought of focusing on the details of our actions and seize each moment.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

There are certain points
Within a close game
When an individual
Either makes a name
For the team or
Has to take the blame.

In the game of baseball,
It may be when a runner
Is in scoring position
And pulls a stunner
By putting down a bunt
To bring in the other.

My Daughter in 2010 Up to Bat in Softball

In the game of softball,
It may be getting a hit
At the right time by
Turning it up a bit;
Coming through in the
Clutch … never to quit.

In the game of football,
It may be when the team
Takes advantage
It would seem
By recovering a fumble
Or using a new scheme.

It’s the same in life
As there are times
To capture memories
And offer some rhymes
Of fantastic lifetimes.
