This day with God, let us encourage one another, offer food for the soul, and reveal God’s power and glory. That’s what Jesus teaches in John 6:1-15.
A crowd of people had followed Jesus as He went up in the hills to rest and be with His disciples. They followed Jesus because they saw the signs He had performed by healing the sick (v. 2).
When they gathered on the side of a mountain, Jesus was concerned about their hunger so He asked Philip a question, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat (v. 5)?” This was a test but Philip lacked faith in saying that it would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite (v. 7).
On the other hand, Andrew had some faith and said there was a boy with five barley loaves and two small fish but still questioned how far this would go among so many (v. 9). The lesson for us is that just a tiny bit of faith goes beyond what can be imagined so what we can do is start out small with just a little faith like Andrew and before long, what we thought was impossible becomes possible!
They sat on a grassy hillside and Jesus took a few loafs of bread and a couple of fish and fed 5,000. Jesus’ concern and care for others resulted in thousands being fed. He didn’t need to say much but just revealed His Father’s power and glory.
Thank You God for Your Word that records another miracle of Jesus. We have gained food for our soul today that we can share with others about the Good News of Jesus. What seems undoable becomes doable with You in control. Every twenty-four hours, you bring another day of challenges, but we can calmly step ahead to meet these challenges head on. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
