Set some time aside; maybe 10-20 minutes each day for the next two days. Read Isaiah 59 using your Bible or the passage lookup tool: Passage Lookup. After reading the passage for today, click back and continue with the items below.

Questions:

What is the cause of separation from God? What is its effect both personally and socially? Who is on the scene in the crisis? How does He win over evil?

Food for Thought

It’s the little things that can cause the most damage in our lives. Like termites who work 24 hours a day and never sleep, the little things add up. Termites do more damage in the U.S every year than all the fires, storms, and earthquakes combined. They do an average of $750 million in damage annually. – amusingfacts.com

Actions or Responses:

Before Christ, there was no light for our path. There was no justice, equity, faith or integrity. There was no hope but God took the initiative to make possible salvation and vengeance on his enemies through Christ the Redeemer. Ask today in your prayer that you will be given an idea that when implemented will help others receive the light for their path; the light that shows how to have justice, equity, faith, and integrity.

Questions:

Thoughtfully consider each part of God’s fast (cf. 56:1-2). Which are you used to doing? How will God show his acceptance of this fast (note esp. the metaphors in vv. 8-12)?

Photo:

Allow God’s words to flow from the eyes and ears into the heart. Use discipline to enable acts of kindness, compassion, and help of the needy. Then you will never be in need but flourish like a well-watered garden.

Actions or Responses:

What if many in our society started asking for God’s assistance in sacrificing a little like not getting the energy drink at break or if those in society that smoke or drink or have any other costly habit, would give it up; take the money saved and give it to the needy?

Reading for Today

Set some time aside; maybe 10-20 minutes each day for the next two days. Read Isaiah 56-57 using your Bible or the passage lookup tool: Passage Lookup. After reading the passage for today, click back and continue with the items below.

Questions:

What obligations do the people have in order to be delivered? To what extent are you fulfilling your duty in these areas?

Food for Thought

Honesty has a beautiful and refreshing simplicity about it. No ulterior motives. No hidden meanings; an absence of hypocrisy, duplicity, political games, and verbal superficiality. As honesty and real integrity characterize our lives, there will be no need to manipulate others. – Charles R. Swindoll

Actions or Responses:

One thing this reading tells us is to have confidence in God for directions. Pray for following God’s directions instead of being impatient and following our own ways. Gold and silver will melt away but God provides everlasting inward peace.

Actions or Responses:

We are told in this passage that the peace and joy in the Holy Ghost is better than wine; that God nourishes the soul as milk does the body. The world comes short of our expectations and disappoints but Christ always outdoes our expectations. Pray today for a desire of gospel blessings. Pray for Christ to be your leader and commander to show you where to go and how to get there as you journey through life.
