Set Free

In Psalm 130, the psalmist is concerned about offenses against God and the need for mercy But with God there is forgiveness and nothing can separate us from His love. This is demonstrated with the gift of His son. God is always with us and because of that, so is hope.

Like the psalmist, there are times in our life that we are in the depths of despair but God’s character should have an effect on our attitude. There is grace, power, and hope as we prayerfully wait for the day of freedom; freedom from despair, from hopelessness, from fear, and captivity.

There’s a video I came across about some lab chimps that for thirty years never saw sunlight until one day their time came when they were free to go out for the first time. Enjoy the video All Things Are Free. 🙂

Our hope is in the promises of His Word and the waiting only makes the relief and comfort more appreciated when received. So let us stay on target even during difficulty; humbly staying on God’s path and like the psalmist in today’s passage, diligently praying to be set free.

God Remakes Us

As explained in yesterday’s post, God can pick us up when down. We are remade when we accept Christ as Savior. We are more that the past; the past problems, the past mistakes, the past bad choices. From the day we accept Christ forward, we are made into a new child of God who remakes over and over until we are perfectly placed into His arms. Here is a video that underscores this thought: You Are More by Tenth Avenue North.

Let go of the past. It was written with chalk and God has the eraser. With God, we have a clean slate and He will remake us and lead us to victory.

God Picks Us Up

The church has always been troubled from its enemies but God has many ways to protect. We should not let our hearts be troubled because as explained in Psalm 129, He provides His people with what they need to flourish but His enemies wither and dry up.

God’s people are protected and He will never let them have to take on more than can be handled. Think of the most difficult time you have gone through. Did it get the best of you or did God provide what was needed to get through it?

Through all our troubles there is ONE who can uplift when feeling down, refuel us when energy is needed, and give focus on what is possible rather than what seems impossible. Let us sing, recite, and use Psalms, hymns, and poetry to declare our praise to the Lord of All.

Local Musician Back From “The Voice” TV Show

Our family went this past Friday night to the summer concert series called Brazos Nights. They had a special guest named Holly Tucker who has been competing in the television show “The Voice”. Holly is from Lorena Texas which is a suburb of Waco, the city in which I reside.

While my daughter and I were waiting in line to get her autograph, her father was talking to her fans in the line. One fan was talking about her husband who was having surgery soon. Holly’s dad told the fan that he would be praying for her husband.

Holly’s parents, Johnny and Cheryl tucker founded a professional Christian band when they were in college called “Revised Edition”. They traveled all over the U.S. for six years and entrusted a producer to begin recording their own album but were ultimately taken advantage of.

They eventually settled down in Lorena and have three children. Holly, the youngest is carrying out their love of Music. In addition to following her ultimate dream of being a solo artist in the country music industry, Holly is also a member of a family trio, “The Tuckers”, who sing positive country and Christian music locally and around the state.

Holly is a student at Baylor University and like I said above, for the past 2 ½ months has been competing on the television show “The Voice”.  Here’s one of the songs she performed on the show: “How Great Thou Art” – The Voice Highlight – Holly Tucker.

On her website, it says that Holly’s dream is to become a country singer. She believes that it’s important to know where you come from and who blessed you with everything you have. To her, everything is about God. She goes on to say on her website that even if she never gets a record deal in Nashville, she is determined to use what God has given her with music to glorify Him.

Staying in the Light

Sometimes we just need to be still and let things happen when they should. Like waiting for a red light to turn green, we just have to stay still until we get the go sign. In baseball or softball, it’s important to be disciplined and patient at the plate; waiting for your pitch. Here is a link to a poem about hitting home runs for God each day: Home Run.

I’m convinced that to have a nation that flourishes, we need God as our leader. Like a flashlight ahead of our path, stay in the light of God’s principles. This video inspires this thought: Stay – Jeremy Camp.

Be devoted to the teaching of Christian leaders, fellowship, breaking bread, and to prayer. – From Acts 2:42
