Obligations

This poem is about the importance of meeting obligations.

Step Ahead

In Old Testament times,
Words to the listener
Was as binding
As a signature.

Not meeting commitments
Meant a broken trust
And the relationship
Went totally bust.

Today’s leaders
Should be held to account
In how they handle
The people’s doubt.

A business in constant debt
Eventually goes bankrupt
But it seems a nation
Can remain corrupt.

The only remedy
Is to lay deceit down,
Admit wrong-doing,
And begin a rebound.

Photo – Many national governments around the world are in debt. National leaders need to be held to account in how they handle the people’s money. This picture was taken by my daughter when she went on a school trip to Washington D.C. in 2012.
