Questions for Reflection for Study of 1 Samuel 1 Through 4

The journey through the book of 1 Peter came to a close last week and now the journey will go back into the Old Testament for a while through the book of 1 Samuel.

Here is a video about 1 Samuel

The reading plan below will be used to hold me accountable to sharing about God’s word. As I share about my study of the book of 1 Samuel over the next few weeks, it’s important to have a plan. I’m thankful that Jesus is God’s plan for us and by accepting Christ as Savior; we have taken the steps necessary to make each day amazing!

Questions for Reflection

1 Samuel 1  – What is Hannah’s state of mind? Does wanting something very much probably indicate that it is not God’s will? Do you back down when a promise is difficult or inconvenient to keep? Do you pray regularly and specifically about your dreams?

1 Samuel 2:1-11 – What are the differences between the destinies of the faithful and the destinies of those against God? What does the Lord do for the hungry, the barren, the poor, and the needy? Do you worship the Lord spontaneously as Hannah does?

1 Samuel 2:12-36 – What are Eli’s sons doing with the sacrifices? What other sins are they committing? How does Eli describe his sons’ actions? What is God’s judgment of Eli’s attitude toward his sons? Whom do you try to please? How does this interfere with God’s purpose in your life?

1 Samuel 3 – What is the situation at Shiloh? How does God reveal himself and his Word to Samuel? How does God speak to you? How does Israel know that the Lord is with Samuel?

1 Samuel 4 – In what ways is the actions of the elders (v. 3-4) commendable? Did the Israelites honestly believe the presence of the ark would guarantee victory? Is a Christian guaranteed success?

Feel free to respond with a short note or a comment about any of the questions above. Also, I welcome any other thoughts or ideas, favorite inspirational videos, photos, or favorite Bible verses. Just add them to the comments or to a Facebook page I’ve set up at this link: This Day With God – A Spiritual Journey.
