Pressing On With Eternal Reward

We need POWER to win the inner battles of our soul and when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He gave us that POWER. We can be connected to the POWER source by attaching God’s principles to what we read, write, study, listen to, and watch. When we apply our faith in this way, we are building spiritual muscle. I call it Pressing On With Eternal Reward or POWER. Here is a powerful video for your day with God: What Can I Do – Paul Baloche.

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. – Psalm 86:11

There is a POWER Source

Pastor Steve at my church said once in a sermon that the book of James is God’s instruction manual on how to integrate our faith with our lifestyle. The book of James was written at a time when Christians were being persecuted and James explains that trials can be used to prepare for the future.

As I reflect on James 1:16-27, God gives us gifts each day that are most loving, most free, and most pure. We just need a way to receive these gifts with our senses, study them so they are planted into our heart, and then bear fruit in our actions so they benefit our life and the lives of others.

How can we be doers of God’s Word? If there would be a way to tie everything we do to God’s principles, we would be producing seeds that could be planted into our hearts and then into the hearts of others. For many years now, the environmental movement has grown but I look at things in the world today and the question that pops up in my mind is: what is the biggest problem we face today? Is it pollution of our environment or pollution of our souls?

Here’s an idea for cleaning up the pollution of souls. Attach God’s principles while listening to sermons, reading blogs, doing Bible study, watching movies, having conversation with others, reading books, and listening to music. As you apply your faith in this way, you are building spiritual muscle. I call it Pressing On With Eternal Reward or POWER.

This day with God, let us humbly pray to plant the seeds of His goodness and believe this day with Him will be amazing because we have the opportunity to put His guidance into practice with POWER.

Purpose Gives Patience

A child waits for Christmas morning and it seems like the waiting lasted forever until they finally open the presents. Just like the child at Christmas, we need to be excited about opening the presents that God has for us each day.

Yesterday, I posted the sermon outline of the message titled “Simeon’s Song”. Sometimes we have to wait like Simeon but when we have a purpose, there is patience and God makes us into the person we need to be to fulfill that purpose. Below is a video called Nunc Dimittis, Song of Simeon, LDS Bible video with music.

Feel free to use this outline and message to study or share with others.

The Songs of Christmas – Simeon’s Song

We are exploring the songs of those who were touched by Christ on the first Christmas in a message series called “The Songs of Christmas” at First United Methodist Church Waco. We are learning how their Christmas songs can help us find the Christ of Christmas.

I would like to invite you to watch the podcast at this link. Below is an outline of the message titled “Simeon’s Song”.

1. WAITING WITH PROMISE.

“The Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be pregnant. She will have a Son, and she will name Him Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14 (NCV)

2. WAITING WITH POSSIBILITY.

“For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 (NLT)

3. WAITING WITH PREPARATION.

“Now there was a man named Simeon who lived in Jerusalem. He was a righteous man and very devout.” – Luke 2:25 a, b (NLT)

4. WAITING WITH PURPOSE.

“He was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he eagerly expected the Messiah to come and rescue Israel.” – Luke 2:25 c, d (NLT)

5. WAITING WITH PATIENCE.

“The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.” – Luke 2:26 (NLT)

6. WAITING WITH POWER.

“Joseph and Mary were amazed at what was being said about Jesus. Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, ‘This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But He will be the greatest joy to many others.’ ” – Luke 2:33-34 (NLT)

He Can Get Us Through This

Yesterday, I posted about James 1:1-15. During the time James wrote his letter there was tremendous difficulty but he was determined to communicate how God could get them through this. When trials come our way, we need to see it as a time to go to God for help.  James explained the need to hold on to the hope God gives and here’s a video that inspires this attitude James is writing about: There Will Be a Day Video Devotional – Jeremy Camp.

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope. – Romans 5:3
