Never Tire of Doing What is Good

And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. – 2 Thessalonians 3:13 

Sharing some thoughts in the post “Leading by Example”, the main problem discussed was idleness. Paul emphasized being an example to others by getting involved, being industrious, and working hard.

These same principles were adopted by the founding fathers of the United States. As the post 4th of July from the blog altruisticao points out, the founding fathers grasped the understanding that it was through liberty, the kind of liberty they had learned through the Bible and the teaching of Jesus Christ, that mankind would be happy and prosperous.

As it is with individuals and with nations, we can become broken and as the song Keep Making Me – Sidewalk Prophets inspires, there is always the need to be remade. In the process, let us never tire of doing what is good.

Leading by Example

The problem discussed in reading 2 Thessalonians 3:6-17 is idleness and not willing to work for a living. Idleness leads to disruptiveness but being busy in important matters leads to productiveness. Using time wisely, having priorities, and overcoming the obstacles in our way sets a good example for others to follow.

In countries throughout the world today, there is this thought that there is no need to work to make a good living. The thought is that some just “luck out” in life so they need to share what they have with others. Many nations throughout the world accept this philosophy called socialism as the best way to go.

The founders of the United States believed differently. At the beginning of the United States constitution, these words were written:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”.

They believed that everyone was wonderfully made by our Creator with certain unalienable rights. That everyone should be allowed to have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Reading the Declaration of Independence recently, a few thoughts/questions entered my mind: Is America leading by example and setting a good example for others countries to follow? Is the importance of knowing American History emphasized enough to younger generations today?

The people listed at the bottom of the Declaration of Independence who wrote it and signed it seem to have been pretty smart and to have made a lot of sense … but how many citizens of the United States have spared five minutes to read it? Here is a link. With the recent demonstrations and riots, it seems as though few really understand it!

The thought that the founders of the United States had was that everyone should start out equal but there was never the promise that everyone would end up the same. Those who worked hard should be allowed to reap the rewards of their hard work. This thinking gave incentive for innovation, hard work, and tremendous economic growth.

Not every country is the same and throughout the world, there are various political philosophies. Because of this, live here on earth is not fair. Fortunately for Christians, only one philosophy matters and that is God’s plan for us. By accepting the ONE who died on the Cross, we not only start out the same, but forever remain equal with true life, liberty, and the pursuit of eternal happiness.

This day with You Lord, we are thankful for what we learn through our experiences in life but most of all, Your Word which explains about our ultimate destination and eternal home. We are thankful about today’s passage which has taught about being an example to others by working hard and doing what matters; getting involved, being industrious, and following a plan. We are thankful for this message given by Paul many years ago and still applicable to us today. As we go about our tasks, help us to lead by example. In Jesus name. Amen.

Faith for Every Moment of Every Day

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. – Colossians 2:6-7 

As crystalized in the post “Living Out the Truth”, the hardest part of a faith journey is to live out our faith in our daily lives. Let us be grateful today that a sustaining faith is possible if there is a connection to the Vine. A connection to the Vine gives us what is needed to not only believe in the Gospel message but to share about God’s reliable principles that have persevered throughout history.

This day with God, benefit yourself and also lead others to the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit by first believing in the Truth and then living it out on a daily basis. Here is today’s video to inspire: Walk by Faith – Jeremy Camp.

Living Out the Truth

Reading in 2 Thessalonians 2:13 through 3:5, Paul explains that every individual is responsible for believing in the truth, holding on to the truth, and living out the truth. The hardest to accomplish is to live out the truth.

We should base our faith on the teachings that have been passed to us and from God’s Word.  God will bless our life with greatness as we wake up each day dreaming and believing. That’s not to say that we may face difficulties like when we are not feeling good or when we have a rough day at work. It can be a challenge to trying to balance work, home, and other responsibilities but when we turn them over to God, that’s when greatness begins.

Even though we may face some doubt or fear, these negatives will be replaced with a deep abiding trust in Him. We will produce endurance in the face of trials just like Christ did. We can pray, study the Bible and use scripture to help wherever we are. A sustaining faith is possible if there is a connection to the Vine.

This day with You God, we care for each other and pray for each other. There is comfort in knowing that we are never alone. We can share together in the glory of Christ; stand firm on the foundation of Your reliable principles that have persevered throughout history. In Jesus name. Amen.

Jesus uses community
To develop our devotion;
Getting people on track
And setting us in motion.

Jesus wants His love
To always be demonstrated
By the way we have loved;
By the way we have related.

The Lord’s Supper is an occasion
Of joy for the Christian Community
So look forward to communion
Each and every opportunity.
