The Power Like a Strong Tower

Explained in reading Proverbs 18 is that the unfriendly that start quarrels. The speech of fools brings on difficulty but being positive in what you say satisfies the soul. Your words have so much power and keeping the name of the Lord has the power like a strong tower to shelter during the storm.

During weakness, He gives courage to face your fears. When the storms of life rage, He gets you above the flood and shelters from the wind. His mercy is so powerful that it breaks all the chains that hold you captive and is the key to set you free.

When I was growing up, my dad was a coach and a player from his team went on to be a star running back at the University of Texas. Over the years, we would go to games in Austin and I remember one time when the team was number one in the nation. They lit the tower on campus orange and left the lights in certain offices so that it lit up the number one like the photo below.

We can be thankful because when God is our number ONE, our life will be victorious and we will be an example of a champion that encourages others.

This day with You Lord, I’m thankful that Your name is my strong tower. If today turns out to be a difficult day, I know your strength is available. Lord, Your mercy sets me free so that I can escape to the high ground. My words will be positive words. Not words that tear apart and bring on more difficulty but words that will encourage, show affection, and satisfy the soul. Amen.

Adjustments

Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong. – Job 6:24

The post “Interaction” highlighted principles that can be used for how we interact in our relationships and in life situations. Some main points brought out are to avoid the traps that get us into trouble by listening to those we can trust and striving to get along with others by watching what we say. When challenged with difficulty, continue to have a good outlook on life.

As pointed out in the song Dear Younger Me by MercyMe, life is not always a smooth ride but the bumps along the way hopefully help us learn and gain experience so that needed adjustments are made for a better future.

Interaction

Pointed out in Proverbs 17 are certain relationships like the one between a child and parent; between young and old or between one group and another group. The principles taught in this passage can be used for interaction in these relationships. They help us as we set out to get along with others, to communicate with care, and to seek those who can be trusted.

Relationships are not always easy but Proverbs can help provide instructions in the best way to handle these life situations. We can continue to have a good outlook and find joy even during difficulty. For it is in difficult times that we have opportunities to learn, to grow, and gain experience.

In our challenging world, we need to constantly make adjustments. Using ideas and strategies found in Proverbs can help us make the needed adjustments. They can cushion the blows in order to provide for a better future. Always remember that every wound will bring wisdom and every trial will bring triumph.

This day with You Lord, we are thankful for Your Word in helping us make adjustments along our journey. The lessons in Your Word, the Holy Spirit, and the experiences we go through speak to us deep in our heart. Your Word gives us wisdom that guides our life and makes every day meaningful as we pattern our life after Jesus. In His name we pray. Amen.

The Week Ahead

This week, we will continue the study of the book of Proverbs and share more thoughts.

Below are some questions for reflection.

Proverbs 17
* What relationships are pointed out in this passage? What principles can be used for interaction in these relationships? Are there times you have had joy even during trying times?

Proverbs 18
* What happens to the types of people in this chapter and why? In what specific ways is the name of the Lord your strong tower? What are the themes of this chapter?

Believe that God has a great plan for you.

Victory starts by having a plan. By accepting God’s plan for us, all we need to do is follow and believe He will provide the power. He will give the upper hand to make what seems impossible possible.

Perfect Plan

This Good Friday, praise God for the plan He has given us. Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

One plan is perfect;
God’s plan for everyone;
It is an amazing gift;
The gift of His Son.

His love for us is forever
And although there is sin,
Christ died for us
To renew us again.

God’s plan is perfect
Because He knows the past,
He knows the present;
In the future is steadfast.

We are saved by God’s grace;
A free gift that can’t be earned
But we are urged to carry out
All that has been learned.

Receiving Christ in our heart;
An act of faith with expedience
So the Holy Spirit becomes our guide
To live a life of faithful obedience.

Christ offers Himself to all;
A friend to everyone.
The Way, the Truth, the Life
How the victory is done!

Christ dwells in our heart
And fills it with precious treasures;
His love, His grace, His compassion
So we can carry out our endeavors.
