Questions for Reflection for Study of 2 Corinthians 9-11

Over the last few weeks, we’ve shared some thoughts and ideas from the journey through 2 Corinthians 5-8. Paul explained there is reconciliation to God through Christ and because of this, we are a new creation. This new creation gives us big dreams to do amazing things like dream about amazing discoveries, find cures for diseases, and come up with new ideas for inviting people into God’s family. Nothing can compare to what this new creation can do if we listen, apply, and follow.

Paul face persecution, hardship, and rejection yet remained steadfast toward the purpose of establishing churches. Along the way, we may also face trials. The thing about life is the stress of being able to balance everything we would like to do and still fulfilling the mission God has for us. Therefore, there is a great need to study our priorities; go after first what is most important and then like the domino effect, our items on the task list start to fall one after another until the mission is accomplished.

Paul faced many challenges in establishing the Corinthian church. There was conflict, fear, and depression because he faced opposition and persecution. We face the same challenges today and when faced with a challenge, we need to focus on God. He’s not distant but near and the Holy Spirit links all believers together to meet every challenge.

Church building was a difficult task but Paul received encouragement from his helper Titus and this cheered him up. In the same way, we can offer some encouragement to each other. There is comfort found in the kindness of another person and inspiration from our Creator anytime there is a glorious sunrise, sunset or rainbow.

This day with God, share in the service of the Lord’s people. Giving should be out of the love of the Lord that overflows so that others are blessed. Excel with a desire to share with others. Generously feed souls and ask God to open doors so your treasure accrues in the hearts of many and fulfills a purpose that only God could imagine.

Paul was concerned about how the Corinthian church handled the collection of funds so he established standards of honesty to give a complete account of the use of the money received. He chose people of integrity to administer the church fund and also set up a system of accountability. The song If We’re Honest by Francesca Battistelli inspires the need for us all to lay our secrets down at the cross and be honest. Mercy is waiting on the other side if we are honest. Integrity sets us free, changes our lives, and is what God wants from you and me.

The reading plan below will be used to hold me accountable to sharing about God’s word. as I share over the next few posts. It’s important to have a plan. I’m thankful that Jesus is God’s plan for us and by accepting Christ as Savior; we have taken the steps necessary to make this day with God amazing!

Integrity Upholds Us

In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. – Psalms 41:12

The post “In God We Trust” demonstrates the quality of integrity in how Paul desired honesty in how the funds were managed within the church. We need this same honesty in how governments manage budgets.

The song If We’re Honest by Francesca Battistelli inspires the need for us all to lay our secrets down at the cross and be honest. Mercy is waiting on the other side if we are honest. Integrity sets us free, changes our lives, and is what God wants from you and me.

In God We Trust

Paul’s concern in 2 Corinthians 8:16-24 was to avoid any criticism in the way the church handled a collection of funds that would go to the Christians in Jerusalem. Paul is demonstrating integrity by having standards of honesty in giving a complete account of the use of money. He chose certain people to administer the church fund and also set up a system of accountability.

The qualifications of the three delegates Paul sends to the Corinthians for this task of collection included an enthusiasm for serving. Also, a desire to share the Good News of the gospel and to use money wisely for the spiritual growth of the ministry.  They had to be honest people who held each other accountable in order to avoid any accusations of mismanagement of the funds.

It’s a shame that our national governments do not demonstrate the same integrity in handling funds collected from the people. The world debt is higher now than ever in history. At the time of this writing, it has ballooned to over $160 trillion dollars which makes it harder for countries to respond to recessions and pay off debt if financing conditions tighten.

We need leaders that seek the Lord, Put their trust in Him, and are accountable to the people they serve. Enough money is coming in through taxation but too much money is mishandled. National and local leaders should be subject to malpractice just like doctors are when they are negligent.

Overspending beyond the budget is negligence and those who let it happen should automatically be put on probation. If they do not get things in order, they should be removed from their leadership position.

Many national governments around the world are in debt. National leaders need to be held to account in how they handle the people’s money. The picture below was taken by my daughter when she went on a school trip to Washington D.C. in 2012.

This day with You Lord, help us to be accountable in how we use Your resources. May we all demonstrate our love for You by trusting You. May we have the qualifications of the three delegates Paul sends to the Corinthians in today’s passage! In Jesus name. Amen.

All-Surpassing Power

This day with God, go about your day being mindful of the power of Love through Christ. You are a champ in God’s eye. Your faith gives hope. It keeps you steady & leads to enthusiasm as you know the destination is a great reward.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

We may face pressure
But never crushed;
We face uncertainty
But never lack of trust.

Persecution
But no isolation;
Maybe struck down,
But no devastation.

In our difficulties
We overcome
With a greater power
To handle them.

For the light shines
Out of darkness
To provide a power
That we can harness.

We have available
All-surpassing power
To bring victory
At our brightest hour.

Cheerful Giver

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7

The post “Give and Be Blessed” is about the joy received when giving to others in need. Generosity may require some sacrifice but you feel much better afterwards. It is in our generosity that we exercise our faith. The greatest feeling in the world is making a difference in the world in which you live.

It is in giving that we find joy and meaning. Everyone has a need for God’s grace so show others this grace and be blessed. Receive today’s inspiring song When Love Sees You (Jesus)  by Mac Powell.
