Victory with Grace

This day, let us be inspired by the amazing grace of God. Let us offer our praise with the song “Grace Wins” by Matthew West.

Mark Shields's avatarThis Day With God - A Spiritual Journey

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9

Brought out in the post “Acceptance” was how the Pharisees tried to trick Jesus into making statements that would conflict with the Law of Moses. They were looking for ways to bring Jesus down because they felt threatened by His new way.

Jesus offered grace so that both the Law of Moses and the intentions of God are accomplished. Things are not that different in current times as some individuals or groups reject certain thoughts, ideas, or established traditions.

Take encouragement in the song Grace Wins by Matthew West  because our faith has one common thread that binds us; the power of Christ in what we believe and how we live. Individuals and groups are not perfect but there is always victory…

One Common Thread Binds Us

Our relationship to God affects our attitude toward others because all believers are brothers and sisters who are the beneficiaries of God’s treasure. Today, use this poem to inspire as we explore the world around us or mine for the gold in God’s Word finding treasure for our spiritual wealth useful now and for eternity.

Mark Shields's avatarStep Ahead

The Lord gives grace to all
 That’s always flowing
 Like a rolling stream
 That keeps on going.

 Motivating all,
 His treasure does increase
 To care for each other
 And live in peace.

 Affecting our thoughts
 About God’s wonders
 And towards others
 As sisters and brothers.

 Beneficiaries
 Of His vast resource;
 The Holy Spirit
 A powerful force.

 That pushes us
 To live better
 With a common thread
 That binds us together.

The Unseen is Eternal

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:18

Within the post “Treasures in Heaven” Jesus explains that riches make one focus on how to maintain the wealth rather than on God. Jesus enlightens the disciples in the need to be disciplined, dedicated, and focused on the treasures of God rather than success, fortune, and fame. The later may last a lifetime but the former will last for eternity.

So as we go throughout the day, let us do what the song I Saw God Today by George Strait accentuates. Let us look for God everywhere by slowing down and looking around. We can see our Creator in the changing of the seasons, in a sunset, or in the miracle of the birth of a child.

Treasures of Heaven

This day with God will be amazing because we are putting our attention on His word. As we read Mark 10:17-31, our thoughts are undivided and we are thankful for the path provided. It’s a wonderful time of praise for the ways God has guided.

In today’s passage, a wealthy man runs up to Jesus to ask what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to follow the commandments. To not murder, commit adultery, steal, give false testimony, or defraud. To honor your father and mother (v. 19).

The man said he had followed the commandments but Jesus responded that there was one other thing he needed. Because he had wealth, he lacked a true relationship with God. Jesus advised him to sell everything he had, give to the poor, and then he would have treasure in heaven (v. 21). The man could not let go of his wealth to follow Jesus so he sadly walked away.

Jesus then explains the paradox of selling, giving to the poor, following, and receiving treasure in heaven to the disciples. He said receiving treasures of heaven is worth a hundred times more than any wealth obtained in this world. Jesus told his disciples that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (v. 25).

Riches make us focus on how to maintain the wealth rather than on God. Jesus explains the need to be disciplined, dedicated, and focused on the treasures of God rather than success, fortune, and fame. The later may last a lifetime but the former will last for eternity.

To be fully devoted, we may have to leave a grueling work schedule that pays a high salary in order to serve the Lord but the gain is great joy because you will make a big impact in helping others. Going out of the way to comfort, strengthen, and encourage someone.

In God’s economy, success is not defined by lofty incomes, nice cars, or an expensive houses. Instead, success is defined by the vast spiritual assets of faith, hope, and love! So to apply the message today, let us strive to make the climb towards spiritual assets rather than lofty incomes, nice cars, and expensive houses. Much of our life is directed by the low standards of this world rather than the higher standards of God.

This day with You Lord, help us to put our total focus on You. With You, we have everything we need.  Let us fix our eyes on the unseen and eternal to reveal Your glory to others. Spiritual assets that lead to true peace and eternal bliss. Amen.
