The Thrill of Being a Champion

Think about the energy of a stadium on game day—crowds pouring in, faces painted, jerseys on, voices ready to roar. Fans endure freezing winds, long lines, and late nights because their loyalty to the team runs deep. Their commitment is visible, loud, and unwavering. It’s striking to consider how different our world might look if our devotion to God carried that same intensity—if we approached His plan for us with the same enthusiasm, sacrifice, and unity that people so easily give to a temporary victory on a field.

Reading today Jeremiah 11, highlighted is the lack of enthusiasm for pulling for God’s team. The people were not seriousness about His covenant even though God’s desire was always to bless them with peace, joy, and prosperity if they walked in obedience to His commands. The covenant was meant to be a source of life, protection, and the way to flourish.

Yet the same covenant carried a warning: turning away from God and chasing after idols would bring corruption, sickness, and division, not because God delighted in judgment, but because abandoning Him meant abandoning the very source of blessing. In Jeremiah’s message, the people are confronted with the reality that covenant faithfulness leads to wholeness, while covenant unfaithfulness opens the door to brokenness in every part of life.

Jeremiah goes on to show how Judah and Israel tragically failed to keep the covenant that was meant to protect and bless them. God instructs Jeremiah to confront the people with this truth, calling them back to faithfulness, but they reject his warning just as their ancestors had rejected the prophets before him.

Their resistance grows so fierce that even Jeremiah’s own hometown plots to silence him through violence, revealing how deeply rebellion had taken root. Because the people hardened their hearts and refused every opportunity to return, God announces that judgment would fall: their young men would fall in battle as enemy armies advanced, and famine would sweep through the land, taking the lives of sons and daughters. The consequences mirror the covenant itself—turning from God leads to devastation, not because He abandons His people, but because they have abandoned the only source of life.

To be God’s champion is to live with a steady, disciplined commitment to the things that matter most—putting God first, working diligently, and carrying out His purposes with a faithful heart. It means refusing to drift into complacency and instead choosing daily to be shaped more like Christ in character, conviction, and compassion. This kind of life keeps its eyes on the ultimate championship, pressing forward with endurance and hope, confident that a victorious end awaits those who remain steadfast in God’s plan for their life.

🙏 Lord, we come to You knowing there are consequences for not following Your Way. At this time, we reflect on the choices we have made in the past and come before You with regret for our lack of adherence to Your instructions. Give us the discipline to make a change, embrace obedience, and follow Your path. As we step ahead today on a journey toward a blessed and fulfilled life, may we make the decision to be committed to You Lord, follow Your Way, and stay close to You, ensuring our hearts are always ready to receive Your Divine wisdom.
