This time of the year, it gets dark early so it’s sometimes getting dark while I walk my dog. It’s good to have Christmas lights that light up the way. This day with God, we will rely on the Word as our guide, listen to the Holy Spirit inside, and write down the steps of action. God is in control so we take courage as we boldly step ahead knowing that things will turn out alright walking in the Light.
Reading today in John 11:1-16, the woman named Mary who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair had a brother name Lazarus. He became critically ill, so Mary and her sister named Martha sent a message to Jesus.
Jesus said the reason for the illness of Lazurus was that another miracle could occur so that God’s Son would be glorified through it (v. 4). He stayed where He was for two more days before He told His disciples that it was time to go back to Judea. The disciples pointed out that it would be dangerous because a short time ago, the rulers had tried to stone Jesus in Judea.
Along the walk to Judea, Jesus told the disciples that Lazarus was asleep. They misinterpreted this as normal sleeping. They thought sleeping would help Lazurus to heal but Jesus told them that Lazarus was dead (vv. 14-15).
Jesus knew the death of Lazarus was not permanent and He was not afraid of the rulers because He was on the Father’s schedule, and nothing could harm Him until His purpose was carried out. To fulfill God’s plan is to walk in the Light. To stray from God’s plan is to walk in the dark.
This day with God, let us walk in the Light, receive today’s encouragement from Jesus who demonstrated His willingness to die to accomplish God’s purpose, and have faith in God’s glorious power to conquer fears. We have all we need in order to courageously face the delays, disappointments, or other challenges this world sets before us.
Thank You God for giving us the Light. The plan that takes away our fears because power is available to courageously face the future. May we spread the Light so others will see throughout the world and the Light keeps on shinning from generation to generation! There is no need to be afraid because we’ve been set free and carefree to shine the Light in order to help the fearful, the doubting, and the struggling. Thank You God for the Light of the world. Amen.
