The Event And Its Extent

Reading in Luke 23:44-56, there is both natural and religious phenomena that accompany Jesus’ physical death. As recorded, about noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon (v. 44). The curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When He had said this, He breathed His last (v. 46).

The centurion praised God when he saw all this that happened. The people who were spectators to the execution saw enough that they mourned and were convicted of their sins. The friends of Jesus stood at a distance and watched. They were not surprised at this miraculous phenomena because they knew that Jesus was the Son of God before His crucifixion and even more so after witnessing the crucifixion.

This day with You Lord, help us to understand the significance of this victory on the cross. Because of the cross, we can approach You directly. We are now blessed with the Holy Spirit working to guide us. We are thankful that You are with us even in our worries, our doubt, and our questions but through this prayer, we can feel confident because prayer allows us to talk to You. In speaking with You, we are speaking to the ONE who has all the answers. Amen!

I echo the words of the centurion. Because He lives in my heart.
