More Precious Than Anything Life Has To Offer

Psalm 12After Jesus was arrested on the Mount of Olives, noted in Luke 22:54-71 is the account of the men seizing Him and taking Him to the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance but eventually got closer and at one point even sat down in the courtyard. It is there that a servant girl saw Peter and told everyone that Peter was one of the followers of Jesus but Peter denied that he knew Jesus. During the Jewish and Roman trials, Peter denied Jesus two other times.

Peter thought he would always have Jesus’ back and said he would never let Him down but he lacked the integrity needed to get him through. He denied Christ three times. The lesson learned is to understand that Christ and His teachings are more precious than anything else life has to offer.

Jesus is treated harshly during the trial with physical and psychological abuse. He was mocked, ridiculed, insulted, and beaten by the men who were guarding Him. The only thing they could find against Jesus was that He gave a positive affirmative answer to the council when they ask Him if He was the Son of God. He was taken before the Sanhedrin and found guilty (v. 66-71).

Lord, we come to you today admitting that we are not perfect. Under stressful situations we may not always have the integrity we need. Peter denied that he knew You just before You died for our sins. We may not deny You like Peter but we do deny sometimes that everything is fine when it is not. Whether it be in our finances, our relationships, or our faith, we may deny that we have issues. Help us to accept Your teachings and apply them in our lives. Amen!
