This Week’s Devotional

We are now in the lent season; a preparatory time for Easter and a time of rededication. First United Methodist Church Waco is currently in a sermon series called “Who Is This Man”. The sermon series will lead up to Easter and I think my study of the book of John should tie in well with this series. I’m looking forward to both!

While reading in John 15, there are two questions from my Bible study I tried to answer. One is how can we abide in Jesus’ love? Second, what is the greatest example of love? The second question was easy to answer. God’s love on the Cross is the greatest example we have of love. Billy Graham said this one time, “God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, “I love you”.

The second question is not that easy. How do we abide in Jesus’ love? I think it takes help. It takes a lot of preparation. I’ll always remember the time my Junior Varsity football coach took us to see a movie in the middle of two a days. It was “Rocky”. Here’s a link to a video: Link. Rocky was determined to win and he prepared to win. To answer the second question, I believe we need to capture some of that same devotion, determination, and drive.

Here is a link to a photo with a caption that sums up the reading of John 15:1-17 for me. Thanks for letting me share.
