This Week’s Devotional

I read a book over the holidays called “God Rules” and within one chapter, it pointed out that the Church today is the “New Israel”. I’ve always wondered about the mention of Israel throughout the Old Testament and about the Israelites as God’s chosen people. Now I understand who God’s people are; the Church. Understanding this was important to me because in 2 Kings 14, I read about how God continued to save Israel. God was faithful to them in spite of their failure. They had terrible kings and would almost be wiped out but every once in a while they had a fairly good king and they would prosper. With the universal church today, it seems that God continues to be faithful even in spite of some failures from time to time.

As I reflect about the earthquake in Haiti, it makes me think about all the organizations that help with the relief effort. Pastor Steve talked in his sermon about how the Methodist church does it right when it comes to relief efforts like the one in Haiti. It seems to me that churches are a great resource for quickly moving into action and making things happen when people are in need. As you go throughout the upcoming week, take some time to lift up the situation in Haiti in your prayers; the people of Haiti and those helping in the relief effort. Thank God that He blesses all His churches throughout the world and gives favor to them so they can help people in their time of need.
