This Week’s Devotional

Last week, I mentioned that there is no better time to plan than at the beginning of the year. As I continued through 2 Kings, one character that planned wisely was Elisha. He listened to God for plans and didn’t limit God’s power. He believed God had the power to give advantages to those that listened and followed His plans. In 2 Kings 6, God gave Elisha the ability to do things that are almost beyond words like the song by Chris Tomlin. Here is a video link: Indescribable by Chris Tomlin.

Because of Elisha’s faith, what seemed impossible became possible. Faith makes things possible and love makes things easier. The good news of God’s love to us in Christ has made things easier because we can loosen up, we can gain confidence, and we can work harder to make the impossible possible. A few weeks ago, I went to the movie Blind Side. The movie is a true story of Michael Oher; a homeless African American teenager from a broken home taken in by an upper middle class white family. He was on the verge of dropping out of school but because the love they gave him, he was able to get his grades up and earn a football scholarship to Ole Miss. You can take a look at the trailer at the following link: "Blind Side"

The movie stopped at this point in his life but the rest of the story is that Michael Oher went on to become a star football player at Ole Miss. He graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and last spring was drafted in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens. Take a look this Sunday on TV and look for #74, starting right tackle for the Baltimore Ravens.  Like Pastor Wayne mentioned in his sermon this past week, we all have a blind side. Sometimes we need others to cover our backs.
