A Preacher and a Baptism
Mark 1:9-11 (NASB)
IN JESUS’ BAPTISM HE:
1. IDENTIFIED WITH OUR HUMANITY.
“In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by
John in the Jordan.” Mark 1:9 (NASB)
2. WAS IDENTIFIED BY GOD.
“Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening,
and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him: and a voice came
out of the heavens: ‘You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.’ ”
Mark 1:10-11(NASB)
3. BEGAN HIS PUBLIC MINISTRY.
“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the
good news of God. ‘The time has come,’ He said. ‘The kingdom of
God is near. Repent and believe the good news!’ ” Mark 1:14-15 (NIV)
IN OUR BAPTISM WE
1. PROCLAIM
“Jesus said to His followers, ‘Go everywhere in the world, and tell the
Good News to everyone.” Mark 16:15 (NCV)
2. EMPOWER
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:10 (NLT)
3. CARE
“I was hungry, and you fed Me. I was thirsty, and you gave Me a drink.
I was a stranger, and you invited Me into your home. I was naked,
and you gave Me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for Me. I was in
prison, and you visited Me.” Matthew 5:35-36 (NLT)

The battle between the world and the way we should live is difficult. In fact, many would bet on the world winning. The difference maker is Christ and at Baptism, we proclaim victory because at that point, there’s no doubt that every battle we face is winnable.
