The Strength to Win Battles

David gegen Goliath

We face many battles in life. In a sermon, Pastor Steve at my church said that like in the battle between David and Goliath, there is power in believing. David honored God because He believed that God would help him win the battle. The faith of David made him stronger and once people saw what faith can do, it encouraged them to join in the fight.

David seemed to know who he was and the strengths God gave him. He acted on these strengths and knew the importance of unity of spirit and to surround him with good people. Reading in He had 1 Chronicles 26-27, I noticed that he had people that took care of the things concerning worship of God and that helped him in the execution of his decrees. As king, David was the principal person entrusted with the execution of God’s laws. He was in his fortieth year as king and wanted to make sure that the next generation was prepared for the challenges ahead.

As leaders at work and home, we all have a God given strength that helps us win the battles of daily life. As we face battles like fatigue, sickness, discouragement, failure, and fears, we should use our strength in God to help develop strategies to overcome.

We can’t face our battles without God’s help and His people using their skills working together. I’d like to share this video with you to encourage this thought: Story of Cancer Patient Produces Video.

David was a great leader in History and He had a lot of help. He had people to help protect his kingdom, counseled him in his decision, those that looked after his vineyards, his herds, and his flocks. He even had people whose one job was to tutor his children and prepare them for the battles of life.

Not everyone is destined to great things like David but greatness in God’s viewpoint is simply doing what He calls you to do. It might not be great things in the viewpoint of the world but if one can do small things in a great way that pleases God, then they are definitely on the path to great things in God’s viewpoint.

Don’t try to hide from yourself but determine to get acquainted with who God made you to be. Your unique personality reflects God’s light in many colors and patterns which will bless His people.

Unstoppable Hope

The next message of the series called “Unstoppable” at First United Methodist Church Waco was presented today. It is titled “Unstoppable Hope” and I’ve written a poem of the points brought out in the sermon.

Life
Days, Years
Hope in life
God can rescue now
Living

Death
Bereavement, Decease
Hope in death
God’s love has conquered
Loss of Life

Beyond
Afar, Ahead of
Hope even beyond
Jesus gives life forever
Past our current life

Unstoppable
 Inexorable, Relentless
Unstoppable Hope
Our present hope is unstoppable

On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. – Acts 12:21-23

The End of King Herod

King Herod was king of Judea under Roman rule who did not praise or glorify God and was eaten by worms.  It is not the powerful that carry out God’s work but the humble. Jesus was born in a stable to a poor girl from a small town. The people Jesus chose as His disciples were uneducated.

God can use any of us to further His Work.  Our purpose is to glorify Him and one way to do that is to help people understand that God can use them. We need leaders today that have the skill of building others up. To read more, take a few minutes to read a post titled Applaud Qualities in Others.

A Need for Each Other

In most activities we engage in, there is a need for each other. Think of praising God with music as many people with skills are working together to inspire us. Think of mountain climbers as they help secure each other with ropes as they ascend to the summit. Think of a rowing team as they row in sequence to move the boat forward. Even in the animal kingdom, think of how geese fly in a “V” formation to help with wind resistance.

In thinking about my study of 1 Chronicles 24-25 and ways to help cultivate the characteristics of real community with other believers, one way is through music so I’d like to share this video with you today: How Great is Our God – Chris Tomlin (World Edition). God bless! 🙂

This day with God is made more amazing when we bless, inspire, uplift, energize, and help one another.

Using God Given Strengths for the Good of the Whole

Reading in 1 Chronicles 24-25, all details were planned as to the order and method of performing the work of the temple. A lot of planning and organization went into the ministry. A sort of organization chart was set up so that everyone knew what his or her role should be so that every detail was attended to.

David organized singers and musicians in the temple to praise God with great earnestness and devout affections under the influences of the Holy Spirit. Poetry and music were used to inspire their devotions to God.

In the body of Christ, every member has a God given strength for the good of the whole. Each member should do what they can for God and others will build on this foundation. I read a lot of blogs each day and when a post makes a topic clear to me, I’ll make a note for future reference. For the topic of our role in community, I made a note and here’s the link: Revelations In Writing – Called To Community.

Some of the thoughts I took away from the post is when Shannon wrote that we are God’s temple and God wants His temple built up, not torn down.  All jobs are important for the work of God. We can work together to complement, encourage, and learn from each other. We need a community to pray together and share one Lord, one body, and one purpose.

Each day with God can be amazing if we understand that we are all His children singing His praises forever.
