For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. – Luke 14:11
A thought from “Help the Next Generation to Their Destination” is to be good stewards of what God has given us. To be humble and to focus on what God always cares about which is His people. Be interested in the wellbeing of others.
Let us be inspired by the song If I Got Jesus by Ben Fuller and keep focused on what really matters. If we’ve got Jesus, we’ve got it all. As the song says, with Jesus, there’s a living hope inside and a joy we can never hide.
When we are still struggling and trying to accomplish our mission, we focus on God and His guidance. Think of Hezekiah as we read today in Isaiah 39. There is something different about Hezekiah when he still had a mission. He was humbled as he faced a future in which the Assyrian army was about to invade, he faced sickness that almost caused him to die. He passed each of these tests by going to God for council.
In today’s passage, it’s a different story when the king’s son from Babylon visits. Hezekiah was full of pride and showed the prince his silver, gold, spices, and other treasures (v. 2). Hezekiah put his focus on God to help during adversity but then lost his focus and paid attention to his own interest during good times. The lesson for us is to focus on what God always cares about which is His people. Be interested in the wellbeing of others.
I’m reminded today about when my sisters and I went over to the courthouse to take care of legal paperwork on my Grandparent’s house. After we finished, we drove around the corner and saw the Moody-Bradley house in Fairfield Texas. This is the house of W.L. Moody Sr. who moved to Fairfield from Virginia in the 1800s. He started a cotton business and then moved his family to Galveston.
His son, W. L. Moody Jr. went into business with his father, and they expanded the business into banking, insurance, ranching, hotels, and newspapers. Moody Jr. became one of wealthiest persons in Texas during that time. His daughter then took over the empire.
The family started the Moody Foundation which has donated millions of dollars in the areas of early learning and postsecondary success. They have granted financial assistance to thousands of students to help get their education. Also, to charitable projects that make long term improvements in Texas communities.
Throughout Texas, there are structures that bear the Moody name. There are two Moody coliseums (One in Dallas on the campus of SMU and one in Abilene on the campus of Abilene Christian University). Other structures in Texas include the Moody Towers at University of Houston, Moody College of Communication at UT Austin, and Moody Gardens in Galveston. The list goes on and on.
My thoughts today … we are all on a journey to our ultimate destination. Let us humbly pray for and be good stewards of what God has given us. Let us care for the next generation so they can continue what we started.
Give it some thought this day with God, you may not be the one to build something to completion but each day you have, you can use your skills to help the next generation. Start a dream and who knows, someday it may just develop into something beyond what could be imagined.
This day with God, we pray that we train up children, so the Word is passed throughout time. Each person is of great value and a treasure loved beyond measure. May we be rooted in Jesus Christ and may the Good News flow to others as we seek to be people that pray for others, be people of peace, of encouragement, and people that live by the power of the Spirit through Jesus Christ. Amen.
A thought from John 14:22-31 is that evidence of love is obedience, and Jesus demonstrated His love on the Cross. Jesus went away to be with the Father but sent the Advocate, the Holy Spirit to continue to teach, help, and counsel. We experience the blessings from the Holy Spirit in in our daily living and we gain momentum from the victory provided by our Savior. Let us accept this love, write it in our heart, and let it shine bright for others to see.
In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will. –Ephesians 1:11
This day with God, seek to do as the post “Build Your Life Day by Day” points out. Also, take inspiration from the song Build My Life by Pat Barrett. Remember who you belong to and live for the reason of following God’s will. By doing His work, you will find joy you thought could never be yours.
New thoughts given, ideas brought out, and a pathway to our purpose without any doubt. The reason for believing in the ONE true God and following His way is to fulfill our great destiny which overflows with blessings. God has a plan for each of us and we are not alone. By accepting Jesus as Savior, we have available the power of the Holy Spirit to help carry out our purpose and God is with us along the Way.
As we continue the journey to build our life day by day, explained in Isaiah 38 is that Hezekiah became ill to the point of death. He prayed for healing because he wanted to finish the purpose God had for him. God would add fifteen years to his life for the purpose of defending the city against the king of Assyria.
It was important to king Hezekiah to carry out God’s purpose for him and it is important that we carry out God’s plan for us. The take-away today is to appreciate others for all they do for you, for the chance to pray for direction, and the opportunity to fulfill a purpose in life that God has given you. Give glory to God in fulfilling that purpose. Then, to pass the joy of the Lord to others.
This day with God, let us build our life day by day and remember who we are and who we belong to. Live for the reason of following God’s will and doing His work. We will find joy we thought could never be ours.
This day with You God, we build our life and the lives of those around us on the solid foundation of Truth. Living by God’s plan for us changes the world for the better as we work together to create peace and joy for communities with the help of Holy Spirit given by the work of Jesus on the cross in whose name we pray today. Amen.
