This weekend, believe that you can do anything with God who gives you strength.

Mark-Weinberger-Power-Of-Purpose-Article_Hero_770x433 (1)Continue to go forward
and always have devotion
to the Lord’s steady Way
that puts excellence in motion.

If life gets discouraging,
keep looking forward
and receive inspiration
daily from His Word.

Make a big impression
by doing what one should
and taking the right actions
toward all that is good.

Make a positive impact;
give a lift to society;
meet many basic needs;
help to remove anxiety.

Share about the Lord’s Way;
That gives one the ultimate need.
For His Word offers great lessons
in how best one should proceed.

He is Faithful and Just

d73a8-golden-raysIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word is not in us. – 1 John 1:9

As noted in the post “The Whole Truth Sets You Free”, Paul was set free by the Roman Commander once he found out he was a Roman citizen. A Roman citizen had certain protections under their laws.

Being a citizen is important.  Today, some don’t take citizenship all that serious. But it always has been a big deal. Back in the time of Paul, families would pay what is equivalent to $50,000 for Roman citizenship.

As in Paul’s case, it’s important to tell the whole truth to others even when they may be unpopular. If the truth is what people need to hear, tell it and believe God will come to your defense. He’s paid a big price in order for you to receive his guidance, protection, and eternal life with Him.

Remember, the Lord is faithful and just. Here is a song to inspire you this day: Great is Thy Faithfulness – Jordan Smith – The Voice 2015.

The Whole Truth Sets You Free

Paul had just been beaten and almost killed by those against his message and in Acts 22, he gets a chance to talk before being hauled off by the Roman soldiers. To defend himself, Paul spoke to the crowd in Aramaic so they could understand and to show that he was a devout Jew with a respect for Jewish laws.

From this passage, we learn that relating the whole truth to others about your experiences is a very effective way to share the Gospel. Paul gives his personal testimony; that he once was a man that persecuted Christians but had been changed after the experience along the road to Damascus.

Unfortunately, the crowd’s attitude was one of bias against Gentiles. Paul knew this would probably be the case but he shared the whole truth with them even though it would have been safer to leave out some of the more unpopular truths.

After Paul makes the statement in verse 21, the people in the crowd raised their voices and shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He’s not fit to live!” (v. 22). The commander ordered that Paul be taken into the barracks to be flogged and interrogated.

It was then that Paul mentioned that he was a Roman citizen. No one in the day of Paul had Roman citizenship except the elite who paid large sums of money to become a citizen; some say around $50,000 in today’s money. The soldiers immediately withdrew as they were alarmed that Paul was a Roman citizen, in chains.

In a similar way, we can alarm our enemy by pronouncing our citizenship within the kingdom of God. Trying to defend ourselves rarely ever helps but it is when the Lord defends us that we truly receive the help we need. He has paid a large price for our right to be free from sin. Those who believe what Christ has done for them, receive this gift of citizenship into eternal life and the benefits of His Spirit living in their heart.

This day with You Lord, we have read Your Word and are inspired. With You, there is a freedom. A freedom that helps us live, give, and love. A freedom that will speak and teach; laying out a clear Way to follow. We are not the only ones who receive this guidance since we can tell others about Your Way. They can follow too. Lord, be with us today to feel this freedom only You can give and continue to provide the power in us to follow Your Way. Amen.

Questions for Reflection for Study of Acts 22-25

Over the last few weeks, the journey through the Bible took me through the study of Acts 19-21 as Paul continued to spread Christianity. In the greatest commercial center called Ephesus, the disciples show their faith in Jesus by being baptized into His name. They then received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Extraordinary miracles occurred as Paul received power to heal people and after two years, plans began for his next steps to spread God’s Word.

Paul faced opposition by those who made idols because they felt the Way taught by Paul was a threat to their lucrative business. The thought was that once people were saved, they would get rid of their silver images. It’s not that much different today, when someone has a good idea that could change many lives for the better, there are those that see this as a threat to their income and fight to keep the status quo.

From Ephesus, Paul set out for Macedonia and ultimately to Greece. There were plots out to kill him so he decided to go back through Macedonia and over to Troas. Through it all, God was there to protect and give Paul the energy needed to carry out the mission. As we go through the challenges that life throws our way, there are days when we get tired, confused, or kind of down but if we keep going and make some progress for that day, we can wake up the next day feeling revived with the momentum needed to get back up to full speed.

Through it all, Paul gives us a vivid picture of a good example to follow in service for Jesus Christ. Though Paul is a good example to follow, he was not perfect. Our perfect example to follow is Jesus Christ. When we put Jesus back to where He belongs as head of our churches, then our country, other nations, and the world will get back together too.

As soon as Paul and his party set foot in Tyre, they immediately set out to seek a Bible teaching church. As we live out each day, we can take this lesson of actively seeking out other Christians at the place where we work, in our neighborhood, or at the school we attend. With the Internet, we can also seek out other Christian blogs and take every opportunity to learn from each other.

Paul then goes to Jerusalem where a conflict still existed with the Jewish leaders about salvation by grace alone or by keeping the Law of Moses. He tried to work things out but it didn’t work out. One thing led to another and a mob gathered against Paul. If not for a Roman commander stepping in, Paul would have been beaten to death.

Just as in the times of Paul, many may disagree about Christianity. Some may see the Christian faith as being too strict and intolerant. Others may see the Christian faith as being the most adaptable movement there is, allowing individuals to accommodate other’s attitudes and convictions without compromising principle.

This day, let us remember that Jesus died for all. Let us not judge but edify. The objective of any Bible study should be to not only learn the main principles of the Word but to keep the Word in our thoughts in order to apply them in our life. I will continue this objective with a study over the next few weeks of Acts 22-25. The aim is to plant the seeds of faith, hope, and love in order to yield fruit that nourishes others.

I invite you to join me over the next few weeks as I step ahead using the questions below to inspire thoughts and ideas. God will give us the upper hand by producing in us the heart of a champion.

Acts 22
What is the content and basis of Paul’s defense? What can you learn from this defense about giving a testimony? How does the crowd respond to Paul’s speech?

Acts 23:1-11
How do the Pharisees and Sadducees differ theologically? What special encouragement does God give Paul at this time? In what times of need have you been encouraged by God?

Acts 23:12-35
How does God rescue Paul from the guerrilla attempt to kill him? What does this incident reveal about God’s work in the world? What is the basis of your confidence amidst turmoil and unrest?

Acts 24:1-27
What are the accusations against Paul (see verses 2-5)? How does Paul answer the charges against him? What do you think are the main reason for the charges being brought out against Paul?

Acts 25:1-22
What kind of person is Festus? What type of influence is Paul having on authorities? Can you think of instances in present times when people have been falsely accused because of their stand for the Lord?

The above reading plan will be used as I share over the next few posts. It’s important to have a plan. I’m thankful that Jesus is God’s plan for us and by accepting Him as Savior; we have taken the steps necessary to make this day with Him amazing! At this link: God’s Plan for Us, is a post about accepting God’s plan or reaffirming our “YES” for Christ.

With God, we can get through anything, we can patiently grind it out during difficulties or give Him credit when the impossible is made possible. Beyond that, we can celebrate because of the victory we will always have with Him.

Feel free to respond with a short note or a comment about any of the questions above. Also, I welcome any other thoughts or ideas, favorite inspirational videos, photos, or favorite Bible verses. Just add them to the comments or to a Facebook page I’ve set up at this link: This Day with God.

Hearts Led By Mercy

Let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. – Romans 14:19

Christianity is the most adaptable movement there is, allowing individuals to accommodate other’s attitudes and convictions without compromising principle. Christianity is built for the individual and is flexible yet distinctly substantiated by belief in Christ.

Unfortunately, we are so caught up in a time when being politically correct is all that matters and not offending people is the main objective rather than following the path laid out for us.

Yet this day, let us remember that Jesus died for all. Let us not judge but edify. My hope is that this video will inspire this thought for us today: Jesus, Friend of Sinners – Casting Crowns.
