Decide and He Will Guide

Jesus invites us to pray and obey. To decide and He will guide as we start our day. Reading today in John 21:1-14, Simon Peter decided to go out to fish. Once a decision was made by Peter to fish, it influences the other disciples to go fishing too. They fished all night but didn’t catch anything.

In the morning, along the shore was Jesus but the disciples didn’t recognize that it was Jesus (v. 4). Then something happened. They followed the instructions of Jesus to throw their net on the right side of the boat and they were unable to haul in the net in because of the large number of fish (v. 6).

Then it clicked in John’s mind that the man on the shore was Jesus and Peter dove into the water. This was the third time Jesus appeared to the disciples after His death on the cross. The disciples had witnessed before and were now witnessing again that Jesus was alive and had power even over death. This same power is available to us!

For the disciples, Jesus fulfills a need they had for food. What need can Jesus fulfill for you today? Is it a health concern or a stressful situation at work, personal finances, or a relationship? A point we pick up in reading the passage today is that Jesus empowered the disciples as they fished and He can empower each of us. He is concerned about our needs.

This day with God, pray about the needs we have. Jesus wants us to be productive and do things we didn’t think we could do. Let us pray and listen for ways to fulfill our needs. There is indescribable potential in us because the same power that helped catch the large number of fish for the disciples is available to us.

Thought From Devotional 04-12-2024

The Light continues to shine and like a ripple within the water that grows into a wave, what starts small begins to spread into something bigger to make an impact on the world. Within John 1:35-51, we get a formula for discipleship. It all started with just a few who follow Jesus. Then these few tell those closest to them within their family or good friends.

We Trust Because God First Loved Us

Our most precious, valued possession and our greatest strength is derived from the same one that taught the sun where to stand in the morning. The study in “Believe It Before You See It” gave examples of Jesus appearing to His disciples after His death on the cross. What a valued possession we have knowing that our Redeemer lives and that His Spirit is in our heart!

Take inspiration today from the song Jordan Feliz – Faith. Believe it before you see it. This day with God, trust because God first loved us! He is with us right now to restart our day because we believe in Jesus, trust, and we believe that the pieces will be put together for an amazing day!

Believe It Before You See It

Our most precious, valued possession and our greatest strength is derived from the same one that taught the sun where to stand in the morning. Reading today John 20:19-31, we are given examples of Jesus appearing to His disciples after His death on the cross. What a valued possession given to us as our Redeemer lives and His Spirit is in our heart!

On Sunday evening, the disciples were together full of fear because of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came in and said, “Peace be with you (v. 19)!” Thomas was not there with them but a week later, he was with them at the same house (v. 26). The doors were locked but Jesus came in and gave Thomas the chance to see Him. Jesus told Thomas to put his finger in the nail marks and put his hand into His pierced side.

For doubting Thomas, seeing and believing are related. With the way the world is today, many have doubts and need to see to believe. How can we doubt less? How can we believe without seeing?

I remember my senior year in high school playing baseball. The coach gave a speech before a tournament that weekend. It was about a golfer who was sick for several weeks. He laid in his bed playing rounds of golf in his mind. When he was able to physically play golf again, he went out to shoot his best round of golf ever because he had been practicing in his mind.

The golfer had found a way to practice playing golf and see himself making the best shots possible. Martin Luther King, Jr. said one time, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” In a similar way, the solution for any doubt we face is to step ahead with faith. To believe before we see with vision, so we receive instruction with the steps to take as we set out to accomplish God’s plan for us.

Thomas doubted and we may too at times as we demand evidence and the ability to see things with our own eyes to verify in order to truly believe. Jesus knew Thomas’s needs and He knows our needs too! Although we are all broken, there is beauty endowed in our brokenness because of Jesus.

Jesus meets us in our doubt. He gives us what we need including assurance, purpose, and the help we need to believe. The arisen Christ changes everything because His forever presence through the Holy Spirit continually recreates us so we are prepared for each challenge we face.

Respond With Excitement

A thought from “Heart Like A Burning Fire” is that when Jesus calls out your name and reveals himself to you, do like Mary Magdalene and respond with excitement.

Be ready to share with others the Good News that Jesus is alive and with us. Let us celebrate today with the song He Is With Us – Love & The Outcome.
