Spiritual Journey Through 2 Kings 1-6

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been looking at ways to apply the word found in 2 Kings 1-6 and sharing some thoughts that not only can benefit us now but also help the next generation too! The greatest of all possessions one can hand off to future generations are the guiding principles taught from the Word of God.

The lesson from 2 Kings 1 is how our attitude toward God and his messengers should be. When faced with difficulty, the ONE true God should be consulted. He is the “Rock” who has the power to heal, to give shelter, to give hope, and guarantees a solid path to a bright future. When we walk with God, we are walking on His solid principles for support and will not fall through.

Before Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind in 2 Kings 2, he asked Elisha what he could do for him. Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit. That’s a good lesson for us today. To continue to follow spiritual aspirations and never stop because our effort will reap a harvest beyond what could ever be imagined.

A thought from 2 Kings 3 is that faith comes first. Then listening for ideas, for plans, for ways to apply our faith by converting these ideas or plans into action. With faithful, consistent, and powerful prayer we can receive the vision.

There were some great lessons learned from the miracles on display in 2 Kings 4. Whatever gift, ability, or idea God has given, believe He can increase it into something worthy. We should continue to follow our spiritual aspirations, don’t stop but give the effort with confidence that we will reap a harvest beyond what could ever be imagined.

An army commander named Naaman was humble as written about in 2 Kings 5 and was cured of leprosy. On the other hand, Gehazi was not honest and was judged by God by giving him leprosy.

God can do amazing things through his people. One example is Elisha as pointed out in 2 Kings 6.  We can have confidence in God because He is indescribable and uncontainable. He’s made us in His image with power to be creative and productive. He leads and gives advantages to those who follow. When His followers go by His plan, the potential is there to be forever better together.

Thought From Devotional 05-17-2024

The thought from reading John 4:1-26 is that people are not drawn to religion but to excitement for what Jesus has done for us and what He will do for us in the future. The important thing to know is that Jesus can satisfy our basic need which is experiencing the fullness of life. The blessings consist of a future with provision, purpose, peace, and a perfect place for us that is beyond what could be imagined. This day with God, let us quench that thirst by worshipping in Spirit and in Truth.

The Future in Paradise is Bright

God can do amazing things through his people. One example is Elisha as pointed out in “Plan of God”. Have confidence in God because He is indescribable and uncontainable. He’s made us in His image with power to be creative and productive. He leads and gives advantages to those who follow. When His followers go by His plan, the potential is there to be forever better together.

Let us join in on the praise with the song People of Heaven by Phil Wickham & Brandon Lake. Like the song says, be excited for what you’ve been given. You’re going to live forever so don’t be afraid. Rise up and show others what you’ve been given. The future in paradise is bright.

Plan of God

Father God makes the impossible, possible. God’s plan for us has made possible the freedom we feel and our desire to praise. We can look forward to the amazing possibilities of today because the Spirit lives in those who have accepted Christ in their heart. What was once thought impossible becomes possible … What was blocked is no longer blocked … What is unknown becomes known … What was frightening is no longer holding us back … What was unexpected becomes expected. Even the power death had over life is change because now life has power over death. *

Reading in 2 Kings 6, we note that Father God was good to Elisha as he had authority and power in the areas of physics, forecasting the future, and with healing. Our concept of God’s power grows as we see the amazing happen.

There are amazing things accomplished through God’s people. Today, we read about Elisha retrieving an axe that fell into the Jordan River. Elisha simply threw a stick at the spot where the axe sank and defying the laws of physics, the axe floated to the top. Elisha also could see future events. He knew what the enemies of Israel were going to do and gave warnings that saved Israel from disaster several times.

The king of Aram was enraged (v. 11) so he sent horses, chariots, and a strong force of men to capture Elisha. They went at night and surrounded the city (v.13). The servant of Elisha got up the next morning and saw that they had surrounded the city. The servant was fearful but Elisha had confidence because He knew God was with them. It makes all the difference when a person knows God is with them.

Elisha had confidence that he could pray and the Lord would make it happen so he prayed to give sight to those he wanted to have sight and cause blindness in those who were the enemy. There is no fear when we know the future has a happy ending. We can conquer fear because the worst that can happen is death and as a believer, death is the point when we get to be forever surrounded by His glory.

Eventually, the king of Aram mobilized his entire army and laid siege to Samaria (v. 24). This caused a great famine in the city. It was so bad that two women agreed to eat their own sons. When the king heard what had happened from one of the women, he blamed Elisha for all the pain and suffering instead of placing blame on his own lack of faithfulness to God. For not going to God for help in getting his nation out of the desperate situation.

When we see pain and suffering around us, our attitude should be to pray. Ask for help from God and put a plan in motion to make the situation better. Have confidence in God because He is indescribable and uncontainable. He’s made us in His image with power to be creative and productive. He leads and gives advantages to those who follow. When His followers go by His plan, the potential is there to be forever better together.

Humble and Honest

Some golden lessons from God’s Word were written about in “Attitude of Gratitude”. An army commander named Naaman was humble and was cured of leprosy. On the other hand, Gehazi was not honest and was judged by God by giving him leprosy.

Gold is golden but truth is always truth whose value stays with you into eternity. Gold without pleasing God is not aligned with His plan. Obtain true treasure by building a life of refinement, character, and integrity. Nothing is worth more than wholeness, peace of mind, and a righteous soul.

So this day with God, worship with the song If We’re Honest by Francesca Battistelli and remember theses lyrics of the song:

“There is freedom found when I lay my secrets down at the Cross”.
