Climbing with His Power

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. – Colossians 3:2.

A takeaway from the study Jeremiah 9 is that when we set our minds on things above and lean on God’s resources rather than our own strength, we begin climbing with His power. Challenges that once felt overwhelming become opportunities for His wisdom to shine through, and problems are met with clarity and confidence. In His strength, things are done right—and the right things are done—because our steps align with His purpose, His truth, and His higher way.

Imagine walking by His side, just as the song I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe. The song inspires us to picture being surrounded by His glory, overwhelmed by the radiance of His holiness. Standing in His presence, every earthly care fades, and the only response that rises within us is pure worship. In that moment, Hallelujah becomes the natural language of the soul, and our hearts overflow with adoration. Forever we worship Him, captivated by His beauty, His love, and the joy of being with Him for all eternity.

  1. What I appreciate in this reflection is how simply Jeremiah 9 reframes strength. The world trains us to climb by grit, strategy, or self‑assertion, but the Lord keeps calling us to a different ascent — one powered by His wisdom, His truth, and His presence. When the mind is set “on things above,” the climb stops being a battle of personal capacity and becomes a walk of alignment.

The connection to I Can Only Imagine is fitting. When you picture standing in His glory, every lesser ambition loses its urgency. The climb isn’t about proving anything; it’s about staying close to the One whose holiness steadies every step. That’s why clarity and confidence rise — not from inner resolve, but from proximity to Him.

What this devotional reminds me again is that spiritual momentum is never self‑generated. It’s borrowed strength. It’s shared power. It’s the quiet miracle of God doing the right things in us and through us because our minds are fixed where Christ is.

A good reminder for today: Climb by His power, not your pressure. Set your mind above, and your steps will follow.

  2. Some refer to do-nothing Christians as ‘so heavenly focused they’re no earthly good.’ If they actually heeded and fulfilled scripture, that saying would never fit. Thanks, Mark, for keeping us focused.
