Spiritual Journey Through 2 Kings 1-6

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been looking at ways to apply the word found in 2 Kings 1-6 and sharing some thoughts that not only can benefit us now but also help the next generation too! The greatest of all possessions one can hand off to future generations are the guiding principles taught from the Word of God.

The lesson from 2 Kings 1 is how our attitude toward God and his messengers should be. When faced with difficulty, the ONE true God should be consulted. He is the “Rock” who has the power to heal, to give shelter, to give hope, and guarantees a solid path to a bright future. When we walk with God, we are walking on His solid principles for support and will not fall through.

Before Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind in 2 Kings 2, he asked Elisha what he could do for him. Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit. That’s a good lesson for us today. To continue to follow spiritual aspirations and never stop because our effort will reap a harvest beyond what could ever be imagined.

A thought from 2 Kings 3 is that faith comes first. Then listening for ideas, for plans, for ways to apply our faith by converting these ideas or plans into action. With faithful, consistent, and powerful prayer we can receive the vision.

There were some great lessons learned from the miracles on display in 2 Kings 4. Whatever gift, ability, or idea God has given, believe He can increase it into something worthy. We should continue to follow our spiritual aspirations, don’t stop but give the effort with confidence that we will reap a harvest beyond what could ever be imagined.

An army commander named Naaman was humble as written about in 2 Kings 5 and was cured of leprosy. On the other hand, Gehazi was not honest and was judged by God by giving him leprosy.

God can do amazing things through his people. One example is Elisha as pointed out in 2 Kings 6.  We can have confidence in God because He is indescribable and uncontainable. He’s made us in His image with power to be creative and productive. He leads and gives advantages to those who follow. When His followers go by His plan, the potential is there to be forever better together.
