Decide and He Will Guide

Jesus invites us to pray and obey. To decide and He will guide as we start our day. Reading today in John 21:1-14, Simon Peter decided to go out to fish. Once a decision was made by Peter to fish, it influences the other disciples to go fishing too. They fished all night but didn’t catch anything.

In the morning, along the shore was Jesus but the disciples didn’t recognize that it was Jesus (v. 4). Then something happened. They followed the instructions of Jesus to throw their net on the right side of the boat and they were unable to haul in the net in because of the large number of fish (v. 6).

Then it clicked in John’s mind that the man on the shore was Jesus and Peter dove into the water. This was the third time Jesus appeared to the disciples after His death on the cross. The disciples had witnessed before and were now witnessing again that Jesus was alive and had power even over death. This same power is available to us!

For the disciples, Jesus fulfills a need they had for food. What need can Jesus fulfill for you today? Is it a health concern or a stressful situation at work, personal finances, or a relationship? A point we pick up in reading the passage today is that Jesus empowered the disciples as they fished and He can empower each of us. He is concerned about our needs.

This day with God, pray about the needs we have. Jesus wants us to be productive and do things we didn’t think we could do. Let us pray and listen for ways to fulfill our needs. There is indescribable potential in us because the same power that helped catch the large number of fish for the disciples is available to us.
